Can you imagine how many snowmen you could make out of so much snow?

On a more serious note... I suppose this isn't the first time this has happened, so they should be at least partially prepared.

Buffalo gets snowstorms like this every now and again - but I think they just beat the 24 (or 48?) hour snowfall record in the states with 72 inches. Parts of the NW get that much snow pretty regularly - not all at once though. When I lived in N. Idaho the snow was over my living room windows at one point - which was about 7 or 8 feet. It fell over about a week and a half, though. Montana also gets tons of snow.

If you've never lived in snow country - you're missing out. You'll get one pub owner in a community that will get on a snowmobile and go open shop and people will drift in all day on snowmobiles, foot, etc when the roads are snowed over and have drinks by the fireplaces - or neighbors will collect at one house. It's kind of a cheery, homey season in its own way.

Exactly! I remember being just a little thing and being snowed in. My dad dug out starting from the front door and put my sister and I on a toboggan and pulled us to the closest party store to buy some groceries and other necessities. We held the bags on the trip back.

I also remember when I was about 10, the huge blizzard and large amount of snow fall, that we could go up into the hayloft of my Dad's friend's barn and jump out falling only about 3 feet before we hit snow and then tunneling out. The only way around was on a snowmobile.

This is not new, it's just a weather cycle.

BTW - I'm in Central Oregon. I got snowed in for a weekend last winter for the first time they've had that much snow in over a dozen years. During the blizzard out in the NE this year, I came about 2 inches from being snowed in with a JEEP. It's called W-I-N-T-E-R.

Yes, there is. While most St. Claude's are named "Humphrey", the most infamous St. Claude of all time was named Cosbee. It would slip victims a mickey before humping their leg.

Personally I'd just be wearing shorts and flip flops in that weather but I'd keep the t shirt close by just in case. Sometimes a cold beer in that weather can bring on a brief chill.

  The St Clyde (as it is sometimes known) Is actually a half breed/half whit. It is a cross breed/cross dresser between a Vaxhund and a Hot Dog (it's staple diet)
  
  It does carry a keg of brandy (and assorted snacks) around it's neck which it generally consumes before getting to the snowbound person.
  
  It always leaves some left however because of the conspicuous credit card swipe situated on the front of the keg.
  
  Even if your pinned down it will still ask for your pin number before digging you out.
