Pro football player leaves behind $37 million contract to become a farmer | fox4kc.com

And just the other day he delivered his third child right there on the Farm.

If I had that money and had to choose between footbal and farming, I would choose Farming. What a worthwhile venture for me at least

Great story! He didn't really give it all up or leave behind $37 million though. He played seven years in the NFL, the last three for the Rams, where he signed the $37 million deal. $20 million of which was guaranteed. The Rams released him and then he walked away from football. Still, an inspiring story. Sounds like a guy with a big heart.

Yeah, I don't think his heart was into football really. He got in some good years though.

Here's a good article which may help explain his decision to walk away from playing a few more years, which he probably could have done. I know my 49ers were interested in him after he was released.:

Football, after all, is an instrument that helps both players and fans forget about the real world.

Jason Brown's problem? Football only makes him remember.

Yet it's a life that has often confused and embarrassed him. As a college freshman, Brown was sitting in lit class on 9/11 when the first plane hit. Class broke. Brown ran to a TV in time to see the towers collapse into soot. His first thought: That Deucey was about to get after the attackers...

At the time, Jason's older brother, Lunsford Bernard Brown II, known as Deucey to the family, was stationed in Germany in Army intelligence. A year later, he was off to Iraq, just as his three uncles had been to Vietnam and his grandfather to World War II...

In the middle of the night in Iraq, a mortar shell had hit his battalion outside Abu Ghraib prison. Deucey, by chance, absorbed most of the shrapnel. Army reports concluded that by doing so, the 27-year-old likely saved the lives of 11 other soldiers. But Deucey died, survived by his wife, Sherrie, and infant daughter, Amber. He never met his baby girl...

"I question how much attention is given to football," he says. "But it's tough. It's a huge machine that I'm benefiting from."

That came to haunt him in the NFL. America's obsession with the game hit Brown as hard as a nose tackle. During Ravens practice, Brown would see visiting soldiers stand alone on the sidelines as thousands of fans yelled for player autographs. It just didn't make any sense to him. "I'd question if people's priorities were in order," he says.

What a really deep and very wise young man. And a terrible circumstance with his brother.

It is kind of like a tug of war with him. I completely understand it.

i.e. ......the NFL is way too big and people focus on it way too much but Iam given all this positive financial resource because of it.

All I can say is use it to benefit others maybe soldiers. Which I can see him doing.

Then they'd build a Field of Dreams-ish story behind this... If you build it (football stadium) they will come...
