I make you a millionaire if you.......

would you make me a billionaire if I would make you a millionaire?
It's a question that I got from a friend.

Would I help him to become a billionaire, as thanks I could become millionaire.
The problem is, he is a friend, so I should do it for free. On the other hand, why not help him and get rich as well?
But then I have to believe in the idea as well, because if it not works, we both have nothing I'm just an experience richer...

What about you, would you help somebody for "free" to help him to become a billionaire if you had the chance to become a millionaire...?

You're going to help someone make 1000 millions and they'll give you one of them?

I don't care who they are, if I'm going to make them one of the richest people on the planet, one of two things will happen.

        1. They want to pay me more than 1/1000 of what I help them make.

        2. I'd make the money myself and give them a million.

Good point, but what if he already spend years in developing it and all he needs is a good marketer/Sales person.

What I want to say is, not all persons have a billion dollar idea, and not all persons with an billion dollar idea are good sales people.

Then he offers you a 50/50 partnership. Period and you put it in writing.

Yes I appreciate that. But look at it from another angle. You are almost prepared to do it for free. So you stay where you are and he/she has a very nice life changing event. Don't you think that's a little selfish on their part? You want to help that person and they'll give you a fraction of what they make. Which one is really the friend?

            To me it's you.

What I want to say is, not all persons have a billion dollar idea, and not all persons with an billion dollar idea are good sales people.
I totally agree but if I had that idea and I didn't even know you let alone be your friend and you could market this to make me a billionaire, I'd split it 50/50. The reasons simple, you may just work a little harder knowing you will share this with me and I won't be buying pads to live in that cost more than I gave you.

Sorry but even with someone I didn't know I'd actually feel bad giving them a million while I sit on another 999 of them, even if it was my idea, I'd done everything, except the marketing.

            A plus B doesn't equal C if B doesn't exist.

With no marketer; no money. It figures you get more, without you, he stays where he is. Surely you're worth more than that?

(EDIT. I am assuming this is hypothetical too?)

Because his premise is a lie for one. Promising to make you a millionaire if only you work for him for free. Bullshit.

That, and I work to support myself, meaning I don't work for free. Nobody works for me for free and I don't expect it and anyone who does expect it has no respect for your time and skills.

Everybody thinks they have a million dollar idea. Almost none of them are right.

(Side note... if your friend thinks he has a 'billion' dollar idea, the odds are very high that he is delusional and/or utterly clueless about business).

If he is incapable of bringing it to the masses, then he has a zero dollar idea at the moment.

If he wants it to go anywhere, he had better put a real dollar value (or at least a significant stake) on bringing in the talent to make that happen.

    Simple as that.

Give away your time, and you are getting paid exactly what you are worth.

50/50 is only possible on equal parterner ships. If I over that to a person, he will look for a person who ask at least 51/49 and so on. In my eyes not realistic.

I agree that most WF promises/offers are delusional

Again good point, many people have great idea's, but no idea's how to bring it to the market.

      Yes, it is hypothetical.
But still it happens very often that I, and I'm sure many of you get offers that promises Gold if you make wood into the platinum.

If it was a guaranteed outcome, then yes, you betcha.

If it was just a nutter saying "Work for me for free, and I'll give you something if I ever make a billion", then no. God, no.

      Thanks for being sane.

If you can help someone make a billion dollars (Why not a quatrillion, while we are at it?)
...and they give you a million?

Let's bring it to something that is more real.

Will you help your friend earn $1,000...if they give you a dollar?

      Not much of a friend.

And if you are helping your friend, he isn't giving you anything.

He would be a terrible friend for offering you a dollar for every thousand dollars you made him....and you would be an idiot for making the deal.

    It's a question that I got from a friend.
If it was a serious question (rather than "casual chat"), then it sounds like your friend may be promoting either a criminal "cash-gifting" scam or an illegal pyramid "opportunity": it's the kind of question they're taught to ask their friends.

Sure l would, l would put let's say, $10,000 into an investment account and tell him, go back there in 1000 years and you will be a billionaire, (or whatever time period is necessary!

      Here's one.

My old friend Jim Straw was asked to invest in a "billion dollar" idea. His investment was to be 50,000 dollars for a 10% stake in new company. He turned it down.

He wrote something like this to the young delusional fellow who had asked him,

"Steve, I'm going to pass on this investment. Who would anyone want a computer in their home and besides, what the heck is an Apple, it sounds like a fruit company."

Fact is, there have been some billion dollar ideas which have made early in investors millionaires many times over. Like all investments, money, time or something else, it comes down to what is at risk and what the investor has to lose...which is about 98% of the time the consideration, not the gain.

      gjabiz

PS. Even though Jim Staw did not own 10% of Apple Computers, he did die a wealthy man and his legacy is still helping people today.

Here's another real life example. Me.

I've spent my entire life "working for free" helping companies make billions and they made me thousands. It's called working on commission.

Keep on thinking in the percentages, rather than in absolute figures.
Making 1 million is much much worse than helping someone to make 100,000 and getting 50% of his/her profits. Now that would be worth spending your time on. Making 0.1% on a billion dollar idea. Screw it!
After all billion dollar ideas come and go every now and then.

    Put it this way.
-- I am going to make a billion, but I need a few assistants. I can hire anyone for a few thousands bucks or even find volunteers to help me for free to achieve the goal, but since you are my friend I'll pay you a million for the same task.
    -- Get the f-out of here! I want 50%!
