I'm Writing A New Song Today...Contest Inside

I'm writing a new song today.

Here's the contest.

The first person to guess the genre of music that I'll be writing gets a free
copy of any one of my products that he or she wants.

You must be exact with your response.

In other words, just rock, or pop or classical or whatever isn't enough.

If rock, is it heavy metal, speed metal, country rock, acid rock, punk rock and so on.

It must be an exact description of the style of song I'll be writing.

The judges decision is final.

Good luck.

        Don't we all??

But I think a lot of people write that style that don't actually do it.
        We await the answer!

      I hate writing lyrics sometimes.

The music's all done but I'm really having a tough time with these lyrics. It's
kind of a story song and I want it to progress naturally through the story.

I got the beginning and the end but I'm having a hell of a time with the
      middle.

      Oh well, back to work.

Thanks, it's done. I just have to find a way to post it to YouTube without
having to waste a whole CD on it. I have a screwed up digital system. The
CD you create from the studio recorder is not compatible with any CD
player until you finalize it, but once you do that, you can't add anything
more to the CD and I have 8 more songs to add to this collection.

So unless I can find a way to transfer this, it's going to be about 8 more
songs before I can get the contest tune on the net.

And if that's the case, we're looking at around November or December.

Hope you guys and gals ain't going nowhere.

At the very least it gives more time for guesses.

    I stand corrected.

Just that the ones you posted like on your "obscure" music posts of old were very soft and creamy.

I am proud that you like punk! although neither of your videos here would I consider punk. More like hard rock. (even though clash can do punk)

      Would you consider this punk?

      Many people do.

I guess some punk is rather subjective. Of course there is such a fine
line between so many genres that anybody could argue for or against
anything being one genre or another.

That's what makes music so much fun.

        YES the PISTOLS FUR SHUR!

Where I see it - it is the true original rock and roll beat, but sped up several times faster (drums) and then the strings are WILD sort of originated in "acid rock" (complex).

I see music through dance and I would also say here that punk has a definite 'counter' beat - it's like backwards.

...not a heck of alot of dance is possible because it is so fast and FRENETIC, unless you catch that back beat. I can't really explain it in words -

but yeh FRENETIC is the best way to describe punk.
DISCORD is another one. yep frenetic discord.

...and maybe angry. i guess i like it because you feel peace afterwards - as if 'you've blown a gasket' - i am all for getting rid of angry feelings - it's the ones that hold it in that have a coronary.

So ugly as it is sometimes it is productive to scream and yell and break things.

I always loved Gary Oldman as Sid Viscious (Sid & Nancy - very sick, saw it 10 times) - He is in a restaurant eating pizza, and then he gets up and calmly flips the table over.

I guess it was his 'compliments to the chef'! Awful and ugly but REAL.

Just like every other thing you have your POSERS AND COVERS and most bands eventually sell out (they have to eat, yes) and become commercial - that is when they are no longer artists as far as I am concerned. They are mainstream, watered down, saccharin sucking cop outs. (lol)

That is what killed punk is they refused to compromise and go with what others like.

I guess I can really appreciate this for instance in how my dancing has evolved to and originated from 'interpretive' - interpreting the feelings that are evoked by the music through movement.

I see much better DISCIPLINED dancers than I am, but to me they are no longer interpreting the music, but going through motions. It is really ugly to me and I can't do it..

According to somebody, the 100 greatest punk rock songs ever.

      100 Greatest Punk Rock Songs

I don't agree with a lot of these but many I do.

Hey, when you're a musician you have to expose yourself to all kinds of music.

I have listened and enjoyed everything from:

      Speed Metal
      R&B
      Punk
      Progressive Rock
      Adult Contemporary
      Broadway
      Bubble Gum
      Classical (piano, orchestral, opera)

      To you name it.

The only thing that I can honestly say I don't like and will never like is
hardcore rap. I don't mind some hip hop, but the hardcore rap stuff does
      absolutely nothing for me.

Aside from that, I can listen to just about anything if for no other reason
than I'm always analyzing it structurally as a musician.

      I'm guessing...Mexican Death Metal.

Basically, Steven wants to be Dethklok but with a more southern and spanish style.

And The Clash are AWESOME. Reminds me of High School (don't do the math...) - so many of the boys I liked then were Clash fanatics. Except for the Husker Du fans (those were more hardcore punks). And one horrible mistake I made with a mope who worshiped depressing English new wave bands (The Smiths etc...).

Favorite Clash song - "Rudy Can't Fail." If your song is like that, Stephen, it will have a 30 year fanatical following...

Kim, the song is done. I just have to find a way to get it up on the net
without killing a whole CD in the process.

Then the judges (you guys) can decide what genre it is.

Yeah, I'm gonna let YOU pick the winner. That way I can't be accused of
      any kind of bias.

Besides, I can't categorize my songs anyway. Most of 'em end up as a cross
