Yes it's 5G, which will be operating at a mind-boggling 800Gbps, and the capabilities are astonishing.

How will the 5G network change the world?

And to think, I got excited when I got my 100 megs per second fibre optic internet installed.

Up to 2 gigs of data to use a month is going to sound a little sick coming from the cell companies. Storage on small devices would have to increase a lot too. However, stuff like movies and games you would just stream or play on the fly.

I read the article. It didn't sound like it was for household use. It sounds like it really could be implemented but right now, it is apparently still science fiction.

Steve, I think you'll find in 4-6 years time it's fact, not fiction. And it will definitely include domestic use.

First of all, DON'T GET YOUR HOPES UP! There are SEVERAL technologies that would have to be improved to process this stuff. 800Gb/second is too fast. You first have to have it integrated into the computer. Current consumer computers don't have that ability. Then the memory would be able to work at an appropriate rate. Current consumer computers can't. Then the disk drives interface would have to be able to handle that. Can ANY? Then the disk drives would have to be able to. Can any?

Still, they slow things down faster than they can speed them up. Video data is processed FAR faster today, and the buffering problem STILL exists. One reason is because the videos can be higher resolution, etc...

ALSO, last I knew, the FCC and possibly the PUC, etc... had to regulate US use of this, and a lot of things affect speed and what frequencies can be used. Ghz are microwaves, and I wonder when they are going to start saying ENOUGH. And there ARE laws, last I knew, governing interference from PCs! With the APPLE II PC, for example, running at 1.023Mhz, it was actually AGAINST THE LAW to use certain peripherals without using the right cable modified in the right way in a residential zone. If you failed to do so, and a provider, investigating a complaint, found you were not in compliance, you could be fined and required to bring it into compliance. Luckily, things are better now, but more frequencies could be problematic. BTW the IBM PCs had the SAME problem! They had Class A and Class B. Class A could only be legally used in a non residential zone. DELL STILL has a document describing this:

    http://www.dell.com/downloads/global...cc_english.pdf

    • Class B products are intended for use in residential/domestic environments but
may also be used in non-residential/non-domestic environments.
Note: The residential/domestic environment is an environment where the use of
broadcast radio and television receivers may be expected within a distance of 10
m from where this product is used.
    • Class A products are intended for use in non-residential/non-domestic
environments. Class A products may also be utilized in residential/domestic
environments but may cause interference and require the user to take adequate
    corrective measures.
