I voted for you and TMG.

    I'll keep my reasons private.

      Tough one Val.
      I went with 2 other random OT'ers.
I was thinking Jared and
I figured with Jared's farming skills and mine we would live like kings.
The other Warrior would have to be a female that could put up with us and not be a pain in the ass.

You can vote for more than one choice

I thought you would have voted for Indy Thom, then you can learn how to become a sorcerer and how to defeat the bilderburgers.

Appearently, the proper due diligence before answering this one would be to go back through a lot of the threads and see if you can determine which of these OT posters is likely to show up with the most weed.

I'd pick Paul Myers and HeySal. I love reading both of them.

Why would anybody want to be stuck on an island with me and Kim? We'd
be spending half the time trying to out-do each other with stupid music
            trivia.

And where did you come up with these crazy combos from anyway?

I mean Gareth and Paul Myers?

That's like too bizarre for me to even try to wrap my head around.

Nazz, Todd Rundgren's band. Of course without Todd, Nazz would have
been like the Raiders without Mark Lindsey.

So many bands would have been nothing without that one presence, usually
the lead singer but sometimes another member, though rare.

There are a few exceptions of bands that went on to be big even when
their lead singer left, such as Van Halen when Sammy Hager took over, but
then look who you're talking about. The guy actually had a better voice
than David Lee Roth. Roth was more of a showman.

Anyway, don't ask me what this has to do with anything.

                      I'm just rambling again.

And Thom Mooney on drums, which is where I got the spelling for my first name
Joe Byrd and the Field Hippies was an experimential type band I guess you would say. Nice was Kieth Emerson's band before E.L.P.

ELP was one of those very rare bands that if you took away any one of
them, the band would not have been the same.

Greg Lake had one of the most distinctive voices of the time and was a
                          perfect fit for their music.

Carl Palmer was arguably the greatest drummer of the time.

Keith Emerson, who had a doctorate in music, was arguably the greatest
                          keyboardist of the time.

Often imitated but never duplicated IMO.

Can't argue with any of that.
I've been a fan since Emerson was in Nice, Lake was in King Crimson, and Palmer was in Crazy World of Arthur Brown and Atomic Rooster.
I saw them live back in the 70's with Black Oak Arkansas, what a show that was:rolleyes:

I remember the first time I heard "In The Court Of The Crimson King"
I was just mesmerized. Greg Lake made that song, with all the fancy
Melotron strings, flute and whatnot. It was THE songthat hooked me
on Prog Rock. Little did I know at the time that he, Emerson and Palmer (who I

of the most amazing bands of all time.

If you never had a chance to check out Emerson's solo album of piano
concertos and other stuff that he wrote, do yourself a favor and get it.

The guy can flat out play.

Amazing how he can go from classical stuff like that to something like
the honky tonk piano finish on "The Sheriff" from Trilogy, which is still
my favorite ELP album even over Brain Salad Surgery, Tarkus and Pictures
                              At An Exhibition.

I've got their box set, that has the only version of Pictures at an Exhibition that isn't a live recording.
They have the London Sympathy Orchestra with them and it's recorded in Dolby 5.1 surround. Incredible doesn't describe it.
Emerson is a flat out gifted keyboard player. It doesn't matter what type of music he is playing, he doesn't just play the notes, he lets you feel the emotion of the song.

concertos and other stuff that he wrote, do yourself a favor and get it.

Oh yes, those were the good old days.

We have everything ELP - strange though - Greg Lake went solo last year, and when a 800 seat theatre announced his arrival - 50 seats were sold. We had 2 of them, gig cancelled.

Sad, long love the memory. My wife saw them in Watford Town Hall before we were married, she bought me 'Brain Salad Surgery' and I was forever hooked.

      It's a drummer thing Kim
From the first time I heard Fire by Arthur Brown I know there was a drummer I would do well to copy.
Both Palmer and Bohnam had a style that though different, both told you they where in charge.

Keith Moon was such an underrated drummer. The problem with the Who is
that Daltrey's vocals and Pete Townsend's guitar playing took center stage
and Moon never really got the recognition he deserved. But listen to some
of their tunes and, if you can, block out the vocals and guitars enough to
listen to some of Moon's licks. He came up with stuff that I never heard
      anywhere else.

Yes Thom, I was a drummer as a kid too.

The list of top drummers is huge.
From my prospective as a drummer since I was 10, it's what each brings to the table that puts them there.
For example Palmer played his drums like a tuned instrument no different then a guitar player. Bohnam was a master of Rudiments.
Moon brought controlled frenzy. All masters at what they did.

I still keep my sticks next to my desk and beat the crap out of everything in reach when I get home from work
If things keep up I should be getting a Bodhran this winter, then I'm thinking an electric kit to practice on.

      That's a big 10-4 good buddy

Speaking of which... You can't leave out Buddy Rich, Louie Bellson, or Gene Krupa. (NO, I'm NOT showing my age )

Btw, my handle "Killer Joe" is a jazz tune by Benny Golson. I was listening to it when I had to come up with a handle back in the mid nineties, and it just stuck for all these years. (Like anybody gives a shit )

I saw Buddy Rich play shortly before he died. He did a drum solo, I'm
telling you, the rest of the musicians in his band could have gone home for
        the night.

The performance was televised on public TV. I don't remember the year
because it was just too long ago, but I'll never forget that performance.

Well - I think we have two that seem ready to share some space for awhile, eh?
So we have Thom and Steve paired up.

Who thinks they could take a month of me without wanting to kill or just starting to foam at the mouth a bit?

Ummm, correct me if I'm wrong, but don't they have hotels on Seabreeze Island, with electriciity and room service and swimming pools and movie stars? (Oops, sorry. Beverly Hillbillies is on the tube right now...)

So being stranded on the island is almost impossible, no matter who you are with.

Sure you can bring your volleyball, Gareth, just remember what happened the last time you were there...you are no longer allowed in the pool area. Normal people just don't do things like that!

When it comes to Jazz drummers I put at the top the great Max Roach, followed by Elvin Jones and Art Blakey. Honorable mention to Billy Higgens, Billy Cobham, Tony Williams, Jack DeJohnette, Jo Jones, Kenny Clarke.

I saw the late Mr. Roach in person perhaps a dozen times and he just may be the greatest musician I have ever seen in person, and I've seen a ton of concerts with amazing musicians. The impressive part to me about him was he continued to make new, innovative music his whole career. You just don't see that very often in the pop music world.

I got Billy Cobham's album Spectrum when it first came out in the 70's. There is a song on that album, "Stratus" with the late great Tommy Bolin that just blew me away.

Thanks for reminding me of that...

David - the others were already named - or most of them - that's why I couldn't believe Buddy Miles wasn't spoken of, too.

I'm doing well, David - how have you been? I just finished another product. How are you doing? Your book? I've been seriously considering writing an actual brick and mortar book with real pages and a REAL cover myself. Did you find it worth your while to do so?
