Flood watch? Seriously?

Central Oregon is under a flood watch right now. We've also got some very PITA wind gusting right now - supposed to hit peak tomorrow morning. We've already had more snow that we get for most full winters so the ground is saturated.

I'm sure that it won't be catastrophic flooding - we've got a few canyons around to take the brunt of it, but there's a dip in the highway just between me and town that might make it pretty hard since I have to go south a couple miles to get back north on higher ground.

Jeez o petes - I'm glad it's this weekend and not next weekend or it would have spoiled my trip.

Good thing of it though - is that it will probably wash up some nice jasper for me to grab on my way up and back.

This is Juniper desert. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought to ask for a boat for Christmas.

    A flood watch in the desert of Central Oregon?? That's crazy! I hope that doesn't happen, but if it does, I sincerely hope your home isn't impacted by it!!! (Or your trip next week!!)

    We're getting tons of rain here on the west side of the state (nothing new); no snow. None even predicted (well, not here in the valley; mountains are getting some). And fortunately no flood warnings! But this rain is really getting old - definitely not very Christmasy!

      I live in Michigan for crying out loud and we're not even going to have a white Christmas.

      We're supposed to get very light snow showers overnight Christmas Eve and into Christmas day but with no accumulation, then back up to the 40's on Friday with rain.

      You're in OR or, as your avatar suggests, CA? Most of my family live in the Stockton area and the last time I talked to them it'd been getting some rain (finally), but CA really, really, reallllllllly, needed the rain.

      Terra - I'm a little surprised at MI weather this year, too. It's been colder out here this year than normal (for the second year in a row), but this is a wetter year than usual. I've almost been snowed in here already this year.

      Weather seems to be changing places right now. I'm wondering exactly how much crustal shifting we've had over the last couple years. Nothing is acting as normal - some places a lot warmer, some a lot colder. I'd sure hate to be in Canada or Alaska the last few winters.

        Yes, I'm in Oregon as well - Portland area. "Cali" is just a nickname - my initials with an "i". But a lot of people assume it refers to the state.

          Tuesday, Wednesday and early Thursday, we are getting rain. Then strong winds earlier in the day and very strong winds (30 or so mph) and either a mix of rain and snow or snow from about 1 p.m. on with the winds dying down into the 20 mph range.

          We have had such a small amount of little peeks of sunshine and a bunch of rain last week. Now that it's dried up some, looks like we are going to get a lot more.

          Sal, have you ever thought of buying an inflatable boat, just in case you need it? We are fairly high up here, so other than a rare rain deluge, we can experience getting snowed in, too. One of the neighbors in the area was running their snowmobile down the streets before the plows came quite a few years back. They might have gotten rid of it, but we had last been snowed in around 4 years ago and I didn't see them again.

            I have an air mattress if things get that bad. Not quite as good as a boat, but the point is that it would work in a jam. If I lived on a flood plain and was actually in danger from flooding, I'd probably get a tuc-tech boat. I'm not in actual danger of anything but being inconvenienced. Still surprised to see that much water out here as we've had this winter.

            The main highway that runs N/S through Redmond and Bend is actually a natural divide of ecosystems. Apline forests on the West side - sage and juniper desert running East. You have to drive about 15 miles East of Redmond to hit it - it starts right at the highway in Bend. Strangest thing you'll ever see.
