Tired of the Blatant "PM Me" solicitations for details if you are looking for a Mentor or Coach!

I'm fairly new here but I see the temptation to start promoting yourself, and have experienced it too. I guess if you sound inexperienced then you may get pounced on by someone wanting to coach you.

Of course, on the flip side, in another post I was just on, a newbie asking the question where to start? and I just want to say 'save yourself a lot of time and money and get some coaching!'

It seams like everybody is wanting to make boatloads of money no matter whose toes they step on, even if it is the toes of the newbie who most likely doesn't even have the several hundred or several thousand dollars for coaching and mentoring.

Sure I believe in mentoring and coaching, but I also believe in fareness as well. It doesn't hurt to give some information away for free just to help a newbie to get started. At least help them to begin to make money and then when they're making more money then offer your more expensive coaching services and such, but don't start off by trying to get them to buy into something that they can't afford right now.

Sure these rich marketers want more money. That's all they're really after. I doubt that they honestly care about the success of that newbie anyway. After all, they're getting paid several hundred or several thousand dollars for their time.

Really good coaches and mentors don't try to slip in a sale when trying to help someone who is just starting out. They take it slow and they help that person to begin to make money first before offering their higher priced services.

What these people are doing here sounds a bit like this...

You ask a question about how to drive a car and the person tries to sell you the most expensive automobile on the planet when you don't yet know how to drive a car. Go figure?

That's like telling a baby to go and run a marathon when the baby doesn't even know how to walk yet. Newbies need to be nurtured and coached, but in the right way before being introduced to a higher cost coaching program.

You can't feed a baby a T-bone steak when the baby doesn't have any teeth, so why are these marketers trying to sell expensive coaching services to newbies who most likely don't have the money yet to get into those expensive programs? Are these people that greedy that they'll stop at nothing just to earn a buck?

I totally agree with what you're saying here. The Warrior Forum is designed to provide information, allow for people to take part in conversations and such. This part of the forum is not designed to try and grab sales from unsuspecting newbies. It is for information and advice.

There are areas of the forum where you can do some direct selling, but in these areas where there are many posts such as what you see here, this is the area where you should contribute to the conversation, not try and grab a sale.

I am sure it against WF terms to do that and it should be reported as spam to admin if it does, by letting it go on and not reporting it is about as bad as doing it, just report any spam solicitations and move on is best.

I would think that kind of lack of marketing savvy would be someone's first clue that is the last person on earth to get coaching from. It's like pming me to tell me you can get my website better ratnkings, whereas if they had looked at the site (not my main one), they'd find that I haven't really done anything with it for a few years, and it's basically suspended right now. Um, sure - I know how to get better ranking. I have to actually put some stuff on the site, duh, drool. If they can't tell it's temporarily on hold, I sure as heck don't want advice from them.

This is nothing new but has became more of an issue lately. When I see it, I call them out immediately.

This is one area in which my shyness really comes in handy.

I never proactively solicit folks. Heck, I often forget to tell affiliates whenever I launch a new product.

Real Marketers/Gurus/Specialists/Or-whatever-they-call-themselves-these-days don't need to beg for students/followers/acceptance. Genuine help comes from within (or their sig). If members see value in what you have to say, it's their prerogative to go for the bait.

...And they say, "But I'm just trying to help! Isn't that what this Forum's all about?" And I'm like, "Yeah, but you don't ask the fish to jump on the boat wouldn't you[?]... that makes you less of a fisherman!"

Agreed. The hidden downside of "PM me" is the knowledge is never shared on the forum and others can't benefit. The thread quality drops, the subforum becomes less useful and over time, people go to other sites for better information and community.

Another thought: this happens all the time in FB groups now. As much flak as WF takes for the rules and regs here, things are much more disciplined than in other forums. FB group admins will delete most spam, but many members link to their own sites at will, and the inevitable "PM me" posts run rampant.

On a related note...What I don't understand is why people PM others with questions that should be posted on threads. Why take up someone's time to answer personally, when others may also benefit from the response, as well as the possibility to get responses from multiple people?

Almost all of the PMs I get aren't "private" in nature and really should be posted publically so that others can benefit as well as respond.
