What am I now, an otorhinolaryngologist?

Here's the thing: the middle ear is connected to the back of the throat by a little passageway called the Eustachian tube, which is sensitive to changes in pressure, and so on.

That "ear-popping" thing that you get on planes is caused by a pressure-differential between the two sides of the tympanic membrane (which separates the middle and outer ear), and you can get the same thing when you have your Eustachian tube "gunged up" (to use the technical, medical vernacular, you understand) from having a throat infection, too. In other words, the two are physically connected, and maybe that has something to do with it?

No audiological materials were damaged during the writing of this post ...

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

As much as Alexa's diagnosis was appreciated, I looked up "misfit" in the dictionary and it's a far more concise and logical explanation.
