I just read about that. It's either an interesting marketing ploy, or there's some devil in the detail to make sure your wallet gets "violated".

Why do garden gnomes smell so bad?
So that blind people can hate them as well.

I don't think they have much of an option to be honest. They lost a lot of market share to Android. There was a time when they had a monopoly but not anymore. They need to get people using this new version since it will be ran on tablets and phones.

I hope it works since all of my stuff is developed for Windows.

Are you *****SURE***** it is "developed for windows"? Many found out that their "windows" software WASN'T "made for windows" when they switched to XPSP2, VISTA, v7, v8, v8.1! Even some "windows" software that M/S wrote that was IN WINDOWS wasn't compatible! For example, they changed a KEY part of the encrypted network system in vista and v7, that caused a LOT of software to FAIL! Several VPN clients I had BROKE when they made that change. OH, and two of them were popular VPN clients written by a little company called CISCO! It was MONTHS before the came up with one that COULD work, and over about a YEAR before they came up with one that easily would work. And little companies like ORACLE had problems with some of the newer versions.

So YEAH, even if it is "made for windows", it may fail.

The sick part is that I won't trust them unless I can run ALL my software on the new system for a couple weeks. So I would have to convert ANOTHER computer FIRST.

Software I personally developed, Steve. I hear you on the compatibility issues.

OK, that is a LITTLE different! I learned VB4, for example, and found that VB3 used a DIFFERENT method to hook up to databases. VB5 used still ANOTHER method! And what of PHP? SAME sort of thing. And what of JAVA? Every time you turn around, it seems they are getting rid of something else.

And some languages HAVE to be upgraded. VB4, for example, relied on some DLLs having a SPECIFIC dependency. Later they came up with a NEW standard, and used it in the next version of windows. It BROKE VB4!

I agree with Thomas on Android. Then they also have to overcome the Windows 8 problem too where they lost a lot of interest. They still have to convert over some hardcore XP fans too even though they won't get it for free.

They overcame Vista's bad rep pretty well with Windows 7. I hope that Windows 10 can do the same.

As far as making it up on the back end, they have Skype, OneDrive, and Office 365 options that are built-in, to some extent, that all have the possibility of incoming revenue.
