GoDaddy -- Pulls Super Bowl Spot ... Over Puppy Cruelty Backlash | TMZ.com

Did you see it?

I can't remember ever seeing an ad before that inspired such hate in me for the company behind it.

  • I think something like this happens every year with GD.

    • Sexy commercials are outrageous mostly to people who lack real problems to worry about, or the perspective to understand the difference.

This is cruelty to (or, at best, endangerment of) innocent puppies. It is much, much worse.

I had never seen this. It certainly fits the pattern, doesn't it?

I have been indifferent to Godaddy over the years (I rarely use them, and transfer anything I do get there to eNom the moment I can).

Now, I have transitioned to openly hostile.

      Nice job, Godaddy!
  • Funny, I just posted about this in the CW forum. I believe they did it on purpose knowing the spot would have to be pulled.

That's pretty incredible and such a ridiculously mindless ad. Hard to believe that such a large company would think that's a good idea.

    • They may be going on the assumption that any pub is good pub and they knew this commercial would be rejected but viewed many times on the net.

  • That commercial and controversy is tame. It's animal cruelty because they sold a dog?

I remember a commercial from Outpost where they fired Gerbils out of a cannon at a hole in a brick wall. Usually missing the hole and slamming the Gerbil against the wall. Same reaction about animal cruelty and threats to ban the commercial but it all just raised the profile of the ad.

They also did a pretty funny one about herding cats.

No, it's animal cruelty because they threw a puppy out of the window of a moving truck on a highway, left with no shelter or food or care.

  • I'm all for animal rights, i can't even watch these SPCA ads showing explicit footage of abused animals..
But Dear Lord aren't you guys taking this ad a bit too seriously...
I mean i see more outrage over an ad compared to live beheadings posted on Youtube...

    • Okay thanks. Did not see the clip (no streaming) but I read a news article about the controversy..

Yeah, these kind of things always make me shake my head.

People reserve their outrage for a commercial with an actor dog and actor people but turn their head at real-world cruelty.

That's because adult humans have free will and can choose for themselves how much danger they decide to put themselves in. Sometimes that does not turn out well, but it was their call.

Who speaks for defenseless animals used in a way to entertain humanoids at any cost?

      I'm just sayin' . . . . . . . .

      Cheers. - Frank

    • I made this point in the other thread as well.

"Any publicity is good publicity" is a farce. Bad publicity can kill a company, either quickly mercifully or slowly and painfully. Bad publicity demands a reaction, and the quality of the reaction is where the opportunity lies.

I remember that. And where, might I ask, is Outpost now?

Isis is not trying to sell me domains. I will never buy what Isis is selling, and now I am strongly inclined to never buy what Godaddy is selling. That is brilliant marketing.

I am offended just as much by their marketing obliviousness in releasing this ad as I am by the horrible message it sends.

    • Yes, no doubt the Sony experience, will produce some copycats.

True it got pirated online but they also Brock even before the released it to theatures!

The puppy bouncing out of the truck by the way was fake, but still in bad taste.

I am with Godaddy and still use them for my domains, but have considered going over to Hostgator, since it is less hassle for the domain proxie thing!

Although last time l couldn't access Godaddy, eventhough the codes were right, and Hostgator had issues with updating the Sitebuilder software, so that didn't publish and took a few days to fix!

Oh, well, at least this is better than attractive women with oversized,....ahem, well women models!

Yeah I've been avoiding GoDaddy ever since their CEO went hunting Elephants in Africa.

    I missed this one.

But funnily enough, the last time I thought that about a company, from an ad, a couple of years ago, it was also a GoDaddy ad. (I'd already stopped doing business with them, even before that one, to be honest.)

  • MAN, that WAS bad! I mean the dog went to SO much trouble to come back to her, MAYBE from the last customer, and NOW she ships the dog to someone else.

At least it wasn't what I THOUGHT it was about! Recently, a woman tried to board a flight with FOUR DOGS!!!!!!! Frankly, they should have made it CLEAR that was a bad idea, and should have told her when she got the boarding pass, came through security, and waited at the gate, but they DIDN'T! She had 1 in an approved container, and 3 out in the open. She was in a hurry, but I guess not TOO much of a hurry. This was yesterday in Florida, by the way.

    1. She tried to get on the plane, they said NO!
    2. She had a friend come, but the friend could only take two dogs.
    3. She tried to smuggle the third on with the OK one. She was CAUGHT!
    4. She went into a bathroom, came out, and I guess boarded the plane.
    5. Someone later went into the bathroom, and found a dead dog in the toilet.
    6. The examiner determined that the cause of death was DROWNING.
    7. She was arrested and booked on animal cruelty charges.

Word to the wise.... NEVER board a commercial airliner in the US with more than 1 small dog carried on by YOU! It should be your one personal item that you can put below the seat. There are HORRIFIC stories about dogs placed in the cargo hold, and how they are treated. And if the dog is too big, it is unfair to the dog, and the airline may forbid it!

If you MUST travel with more than one dog, try to get people to fly with you that are accommodating and trusted. Otherwise, try to fly chartered or private. Otherwise, take ground transportation, or ship.

  • Enough is enough with this company. Please try and avoid using them if possible. I understand there are certain situations where it's unavoidable for webmasters. I'm happy to say that I have zero domains with GoDaddy at this moment in time. I try to boycott them at all costs. The only times I have used them in recent years is if I buy a domain from someone that already has it registered with them or through auction. But as soon as possible I transfer the domains to Namecheap.

Try your best to boycott GoDaddy for your domains, web hosting or any other services they provide.
  • I didn't watch the ad. I"m getting the drift what it's about and don't want to see it. At all. Animal abuse raises my fury more than anything else on this planet. It makes me wish I used go-daddy just so I could fire them. Demented assholes.
    • [ 1 ] Thanks
  • The Bud commercial has all the many of the same basic elements as the GoDaddy commercial yet it's being touted as the best one of the year. Yet interestingly, the Bud puppy very well could have been thrown out of the truck because it doesn't really show exactly how the door gets open. Go figure.

I don't see the problem with the ad really other than been insensitive.
Why on earth YouTube would pull it is a total mystery. They even have these ISIS beheadings on there.

  • The reason a lot of people don't like this ad is because it tugs at your heartstrings, getting you emotionally involved in the puppy's plight, only to have an apparent happy reunion become nothing more than a cold-hearted, profit-motivated ending.

They manipulated the audiences' feelings to create a shock point, and that shock point doesn't convert well into a sales message for many. You don't get to hook people by the emotions and then rip those emotions apart without repercussions.

    The anticlimax is the deal-breaker.

    • GD's claim is they were "spoofing" the Budweiser puppy commercial...I think this "spoof" was never meant to be shown except for "attention" as they have "another video that people will love" that will magically be ready in time....

Looks like Budweiser has another great puppy commercial for Super Bowl this year.
