So the Earth is hollow and filled with gas.

    Brilliant.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

    Um...........
    Uh..........

Shane - I'm not sure what to say here. Don't want to hurt feelings, Shane, but this dude is a certifiable froot loop and I'm not sure whether you're being funny or you actually found something interesting about his thought processes? At this point about the only comment I feel solid about making is WTF?

Its all to do with String theory. A giant piece of mile wide string has been spotted coming out of the north pole extending a thousand miles into space, thus proving the Earth is a giant balloon. Any alien attack would just involve inserting a giant pin through the Earth's crust which would pop the planet.

Seriously, the iron core that creates the magnetic field seems to have vanished in this guys theory. So where's that coming from? He essentially says I got my theories from researching fringe ideas from the net and conspiracy theory books.

The whole things full of hot air, unlike the Earth.

I remember, in high school, reading a book about a hollow Earth. Even then, I thought "Then why are there volcanoes? And why does gravity always pull to the center of our planet?"

And now my questions are more like "Why do we suddenly want to post pictures of ourselves without a shirt, showing our armpits?""

Like i said in Tim's thread, exercising the right to bare arms. If WC came to live in the US he would have the right to bears arms.

Yeah, l know hollow earth, hollow brain, but he does raise some good supportive evidence, like NASA finding a star with a lot of frozen water around it.

And the dinosaurs not being able to support their own weight!

And he doesn't say hollow earth, just that it is frozen water with a high pressure gas envelope.

I would say that this is an easy one to prove, just measure the Earths circumference from space, and see if if it expands or stays the same?

I wouldn't dismiss his theory completely, based on compelling evidence, but wouldn't accept it without conclusive evidence, (being the ISS experiment above).

Easy? No. But that's exactly what they did.

I say not easy, because it involved, and I quote NASA here,

The movement of the satellites causes a frequency shift of the signal that can be observed to determine ground positions and other information.

But that wasn't enough, because some of this is potentially contaminated by the frames of reference available to them. So they went further.

The previously discussed geodetic techniques (satellite laser ranging, very-long baseline interferometry and GPS) were used to obtain data on Earth surface movements from a global network of carefully selected sites. These data were then combined with measurements of Earth's gravity from NASA's Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) spacecraft and models of ocean bottom pressure, which help scientists interpret gravity change data over the ocean.

The result? The scientists estimated the average change in Earth's radius to be 0.004 inches (0.1 millimeters) per year, or about the thickness of a human hair, a rate considered statistically insignificant.

Within an acceptable reference range, they have concluded that the Earth is not expanding.

            Sorry dude.

The mantle is made of molten rock (read: really, really hot). Ya think that any water down there's likely to be frozen when anywhere on earth that you have mantle plumes, you have warmer surface temps, snow melt, thermal water flow such as warm geysers or hot springs, and don't forget that when pressure builds, what's inside the earth comes up - and it's not frozen, it's molten.

There's nothing frozen inside of earth - the only cold you get underground is in shallow mine shafts and caves that are affected by surface temps and lack of solar warming. Once you start hitting real depth or get near the mantle- you start hitting heat. That's not a guess. The thought of an ice interior of any solid/gas/liquid just does not make any sense.
