I fascinates me that there are actually human beings that think that what they see on stage, when magicians perform, is real.

(To the OP. I know you were joking)

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

When I was 35 years old, my Dad did the "I got your nose" trick on me.

I screamed in horror, and I looked in the mirror.

My Father botched the trick. He took my nose, and left his thumb in it's place.

It's where the expression, "Thumbing your nose" came from.

One trick I have never sussed out. The woman gets into an upright cabinet and the three doors are closed, her navel is visible through a port in the center section as are one of her feet and her face top and bottom., then they slide the center section out and her navel goes with it. Her face and foot are still in place. The magician or even a member of the audience is invited to put their hands in the empty space.

Seen it performed in close up in a resturant. Still cant figure it out. Robert Harbin invented it.

No, shall not ask, I need to figure it out for myself before I die. If I don't I will seek out Harbin in the afterlife and say, ok, how do you do it, if he refuses to tell I will tear a chunk out of him.

I'll say this; I never figured it out, until I read about the trick in a book on Magic.

              So...welcome to the club.

Added later; Magic where the prop is doing all the work, doesn't interest me as much as the slight of hand, that requires real skill and hundreds of hours of practice. It's the real difficulty of the skill that makes it beautiful to me.

IMO, much of the "magic" is in the creativeness and originality of creating the prop in the first place. Using hindsight, it may not be that impressive. But IMO, coming up with the idea in the first place is.

You've read my post on my "Carbanaro Effect" thread. I don't think he's a great magician by any means. But I really like how he takes basic slight of hand tricks and does them in creative and original settings.

Of course, the inventor was great. Imagine how hard it would be to think of an original idea like that.

I enjoy it too. The only shows I don't like are the ones where editing the show is considered part of the illusion. There is a new series called Troy. Much of the magic is simply deleting scenes where the trick is set up. Or adding scenes later with actors, to make the effect look more dramatic. Or having the camera move around, to hide where the action was taking place.

We know beyond a shadow of doubt Claude will never be the person in the cabinet. There's no way there would be any empty space in the cabinet in the vicinity of his navel.

Now if we can only learn how to make Claude disappear...

Why are you so mean to me? I come here to add a little joy, to spread a little cheer..

And you are so mean to me. You want me to disappear? Where would I go? It's cold out there. Unless...unless..you want me to die....and that thought makes me sad. Because I don't want to die.

I think you are a horrible horrible man. How do you think these insults make me feel?

Do you need a hug? I could recommend a service.
