    I had a dachshund that we corralled in the kitchen when we left, and he always got into the trash under the sink. Never, ever, when we were there, only when we were gone.

    Turned the cam on, went out, got in the car and drove away. Watched the vid later. You could see him listening as we drove away. When he was sure we were gone, paws open the cupboard door and dumps the trash. We had only driven around the block - when he heard us pull back in the driveway, away he ran to his bed and was there with the most innocent looking face when we walked back in the house.

      Our pup also goes to our bed. She even brings up a bone for each of us, I guess in case we get hungry at night and need a snack

      When we pull back into the driveway, she will watch us out the window and greet us at the door as if we have been gone for weeks.

      Since she always heads for our bed when we leave, we always put on an additional washable comforter over top of pillows and everything. It's not that she doesn't have a very nice dog bed of her own with pillows on both sides, she prefers ours and can't be talked out of it. Good thing we have extra comforter!

          Pretend.

          If you can think you're God, then you can think you've got a dog.

              When I had a dog, after I left for work;

              He would open the refrigerator, get a beer, and watch Animal Planet.

              He would invite the neighborhood dogs over, and send mean tweets to the neighborhood cats.

              There was a poodle , down the street. He was never invited.

              I would come home, and see all the trash....but he would lie to me, and tell me that the house was broken into. I believed him for the first two weeks.
              Eventually, I realized that the home probably wasn't being burglarized every day.....so I started to suspect he was lying to me.

              I got angry, and hit his nose with a newspaper. He called the police, and had me arrested for abuse. Then he walked out of my life...with my wallet and my bank book.

              I'm typing this from jail.

              Bad dog. Bad.

    Nothing strange about what the dog does. Lots of dogs do things like that when nobody is home. I know that my landlady's dogs sit on her bed and watch the traffic, waiting for her to come home, among other things.
