15 Newly Adopted Dogs Show Pure Joy On Ride Home From Shelter

Seriously, if you're looking for a new dog or puppy, you should check with your local animal shelters first.

      That it is.

I have a confession to make...

When I scroll through the photos, I get all teary eyed.

Not surprised. If it can do it to me, I'd not be surprised if you said you were in puddles. Nothing better in life than a dog that knows you saved him and will always love him.

    Cats too!

We paid $70 for Mr. Izbister to a local shelter and he turned out to be one of the greatest pets we ever had.

My two most favorite puppies/dogs Snoopy and Spice were both shelter dogs.

I'm currently trying to convince hubby to let me go rescue another one. I've got a lot of sweet talking to do.

My favorite dog of all times, Spunky, came from a rescue group. He'd been adopted out and returned three or four times because of aggression issues. With us he became an award winning agility dog and he was ever so affectionate with us. Losing him unexpectedly to what was probably a brain tumor almost killed me.

The pups are definitely adorable. I'm so glad one was old and still adopted instead of left to languish in a shelter.

Except for one pure breed, every last pet we have ever had came from a shelter. When we brought our current pup home, it was after being "fixed" and all she wanted to do was sleep. Otherwise, car rides scare the heck out of her and I keep a barf bag handy.

Speaking of this - if anyone is going to be in Thailand and is coming to the states, you should check with the SOI dog foundation before coming. They are rescuing thousands of dogs from the illegal dog meat trade and some of the dogs are being adopted by Americans and need someone to "courrier" for them on the planes so they can get to their new homes. It's a wonderful organization and anyone who wants to help these dogs can donate or help them get to their new "forever" homes. They've been through hell - so if you're traveling, please remember them and help a few of them get home if you can.
