Krispy Kreme Apologizes For 'KKK Wednesdays' Promotion
#off topic forum
  • Their donuts are so good that they could have Hitler as their spokes person and people would still buy their donuts.
  • Krispy Kreme went broke in Australia because of how crappy their donuts are.

You might just as well eat a bag of sugar. The only purpose they serve is to make McDonald's taste like haute cuisine.

Their donuts are so shitty they could have (insert name of wonderful person here) as their spokesperson and they'd still have gone tits up.

    • Wow what a difference a taste bud makes. I've never really eaten their donuts.

Do you have dunkin donuts down under?

    • You all in AU must have a recipe that is different than KK in US.

I get the free ones they hand out after just coming from the Oven...and it is as close to Heaven as any food I have ever put in my mouth

I know their initials are KK and KKK stands, to them, for Krispy Kreme Klub ... but do they live in a bubble? How could they not realize what KKK conjures up in the minds of many people? They should fire whoever makes decisions like that.

    They're donuts are the best.
  • Frankly, KK was too close to home. But naming a business CAN be difficult. KREME is oddly spelled, they could have had three Cs.

As for the donuts, those that REALLY love them try to get them hot off the conveyor.

Not quite, while they did close a bunch of store back in 2010, you can get Krispy Kreme doughnuts all over Australia.

Krispy Kreme's 2014 Australian opening in Whitford City, Hillarys on November 26, 2014 was the biggest day of doughnut sales in their history -- a record 73,200 donuts were sold. That's the most successful day in their 77 year history. Australians were slamming those donuts down!

    • In Sydney they opened up a load of stand alone stores, which did lose money. So they shut those down and moved into established 7/11 outlets it appears. I'm not sure how they'll fare in those as 7/11's are the sort of places people go to at 3am when nothing else is open

So, they had a bumper opening day in Whitford's. eh? Hardly surprising given the blanket media coverage that that store's opening had. It was a major item on all three of the local commercial TV station's evening news bulletins, which also illustrates how shitty Perth's commercial TV outlets are.

I see you've added some more info about their Adelaide opening. That doesn't surprise me either, as that is probably the highlight of the cultural year in that part of Adelaide, similar to the opening of the opera season in London, New York or Paris. I see that the locals reacted to it in their usual manner as well.

Anyway, I don't care how many stats, graphs and chart porn gets thrown at me, I remain resolute that their donuts are inedible.

      Keep it coming though .

Yeah, they closed a couple dozen stores and then went into 600 Australian 7-Elevens several years ago. They are still in those 7-Eleven stores today so obviously people are eating the donuts.

When they closed those stores back in the day they cited high rents, high distribution costs, and poor sales in some locations. Some industry analysts say they screwed up going to big to fast...

They were profitable in 2014, and they are one of the biggest fast food chains on earth, so that tells us people are eating the donuts.

Back then they had 224 store serving 311 million in the USA (1 store per 1.4m people). In Australia they went really big with 50 stores serving 21 million (1 store per 420K people)....

Anyway, 7-Eleven is now slinging donuts for them 24/7 at 600 locations... Slurpees and Krispy Kreme....what more could one want at 4AM.

Krispy Kreme just opened their 1000th donut shop... That number includes factory stores and satellite shops but not outlets like 7-Eleven. Krispy Kreme is now serving 24 countries...

No problem, we get it...you don't like Krispy Kreme donuts.

As far as donut shops go....Dunkin' Donuts is an industry giant that has over 7,600 locations. That said, the average Krispy Kreme location does three times the revenue that a Dunkin' Donuts shop does.

As far as donut flavor goes, raised and/or glazed donuts are some of my favorites, and I don't drink coffee, so Krispy Kreme donuts are just fine with me.

Krispy Kreme has been profitable in each of the past 4 years....the data below is from their 2014 annual report.

Well, they've corrected their coffee mistake. After 14 quarters of loss, they're in the black now. The store we had down the road closed up. I was sad to see it go. There's literally nothing like the taste of donuts hot off the conveyer belt. You won't get that at a Dunkin Donuts or nowhere else that I have access to.

Around here (SC/US) we call it green chicken after it hit local news that KFC was cooking/selling rotten chicken.

Not my idea of finger licking good.
    • As a nation we also "love" McDonald's, Burger King (called Hungry Jacks here), Pizza Hut, Subway, Dominos and more. I've no idea which is the most popular fast food outlet Down Under, but I'm sure you'll have some stats on it.
