Mr. Spock has passed away at age 83, he has lost his battle with COPD.

My favorite Star Trek is #6. Lots of memorable dialog.

My favorite line is when Scotty says (after some emergency) "Then we're dead!"

And Spock nonchalantly says "I've been dead before".

Nimoy will be missed by all the fans.

Live long and prosper. I've used the vulcan pinch on the bullies back in high school, and yeah it worked. Spock gave me hope.

    Leonard Nimoy,

Rest In Peace Leonard Nimoy. You will always be the original Vulcan to me. It was great to meet him in person, usually at some kind of convention, a couple of times and it was always a great impression.

He will be missed and I'm glad we had him for as long as we did. He was the voice of one of my favorite shows as a child, "In Search Of....".

    Godspeed my brother,

    RoD

Yeah, but Sheldon has Nimoy's DNA on a dinner napkin and has plans to clone him. There may still be hope.

I had a girlfriend in college because of this move I learned from him. She was smitten, didn't knew she was a hardcore trekkie. Just waiting for the right man to show her true emotions. I offer tribute and gratitude for Vulcans all around the universe.

According to Nimoy, that Vulcan salute is actually something he saw his rabbi do during a part of some ceremony when people are supposed to have their eyes closed.

Right... It's a priestly blessing gesture.

In his autobiography I Am Not Spock, Nimoy wrote that he based it on the Priestly Blessing performed by Jewish Kohanim with both hands, thumb to thumb in this same position, representing the Hebrew letter Shin (ש), which has three upward strokes similar to the position of the thumb and fingers in the salute. The letter Shin here stands for El Shaddai, meaning "Almighty (God)", as well as for Shekinah and Shalom. Nimoy wrote that when he was a child, his grandfather took him to an Orthodox synagogue, where he saw the blessing performed and was impressed by it.

The symbol became so well-known that in June 2014 it was added to version 7 of the Unicode standard as U+1F596 (raised hand with part between middle and ring fingers), and the White House referenced it directly it in its statement on Leonard Nimoy's death, calling it "the universal sign for 'Live long and prosper.'"
Vulcan salute - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Gravestone of Rabbi and Kohen Meschullam Kohn (1739–1819).

The Jewish tradition states the Divine Presence would shine through the fingers of the priests as they blessed the people, and no one was allowed to look at this out of respect for God.

Each kohen's tallit is draped over his head and hands so that the congregation cannot see his hands while the blessing is said.

        Really?

The one that completely ignored the man, and made it all about "god"? That was the best part of this tribute thread for you?

And people wonder why anyone would be an atheist?

Granted, the hand gesture was a big part of it his shtick, but come on.

I've got a hand gesture too. If it is what people are talking about when I die, I hope to actually be doing it at the time.

It's hard to argue about this one, but it's Indiana Jones' opinion a.k.a. Han Solo!

And so the rift between Trekkies and Star Wars Fans goes on...

But still... both parties pay homage to Dr. Spock, when we settle our differences and offer a moment of silence to a great actor-- Leonard Nimoy.

It wasn't a shtick. It came to be identified with a key part of Spock that Nimoy embraced for himself in "Live long and prosper" - the acronym which he added to many of his online communications. In that he owned it for himself. Theres nothing wrong with identifying its origin. Its just factual not a discussion of religion

            From Mirriam-Webster:

            shtick
            noun ˈshtik
: a usual way of performing, behaving, speaking, etc.
: something that a person likes to do or does well
It wasn't meant as an insult. My affection for the man was as strong as anybody's.

I am not the one who made it about religion. I was pointing out how ludicrous it was that someone else made it about religion.

Nimoy identified with the phrase live long and prosper (not just did it well) and the salute was connected to that. No harm and no foul in mentioning the origins of it.

Sorry but you are the ONLY one making it about religion and atheism (which is a religious position - against religion). All those posts did was point out the origins of the salute. If something has a religious origin someone saying so is not a religious discussion. its just stating a fact and moving on. Just like saying he was Jewish.

Canadians urged to stop "Spocking" $5 notes...

Canada's central bank is urging citizens to stop defacing their $5 notes in a tribute to deceased actor Leonard Nimoy.

In a trend dubbed "Spocking," Canadians have taken to drawing pointy ears and tiled brows on top of Canada's seventh prime minister, Sir. Wilfrid Laurier, to make him look like Mr. Spock, the half-Vulcan, half-human Star Trek character made famous by Nimoy.
Canada: 'Spocking' $5 notes not illegal, but illogical

Large numbers of the notes in circulation now show Laurier with Spock’s pointy ears, trademark haircut and eyebrows, a Star Trek badge and the character’s mantra “live long and prosper”.
