  • Concorde Warrior, I think that you might sleep a little more soundly if you read this...

    • Thank you for posting your links. I was actually interested to get others opinions and feedback.

I wonder if the Betelgeuse turning into a Supernova is what I see at the South East from my windows. There is a big bright object over the sea. I have been noticing it for the last 3 days. It is stable, extremely bright, not round, rather long and the "object" does not move. This is no UFO I am sure.

I chase after the ISS. Just saw them passing overhead some minutes ago.

I know Jupiter is visible and very bright so is Venus much later in the night and I don't stay up all night to see them. I would love to see the Betelgeuse explosion. I would have to make sure of where to look just to make sure I am really looking at the right thing.

  • Concorde - Betelguese, as far as we can see now, is still contracting - you won't see excess light from it yet. When it blows it will be fast and immediate, not growing larger over time. When it goes, you aren't going to have to guess where to look. It will create plenty of light. I tend to agree with the other links, but still feel that something that can send that much light here might blow some winds our way - don't expect much more than some magnetic turbulence, etc. But I'll bet that phones, etc will pick up some royally rancid static for a bit.

    • I hope the big BOOM will happen at night. I would hate to miss out. We might not be able to see it if it happens during the day.

      Hurry Up Betelgeuse!

  • I would imagine that you will be able to see it during the day. It's a major stellar event and it's fairly close in astronomical terms.

    • I don't think it will go boom, but what do you think is behind the horse head nebula or in Orion ?

  • Visible that long? At the distance of Betelguese, that could make some miserable nights. One sun is quite enough. I like a dark sky.
  • I used to worry about this kind of stuff, but after a while, you start to see that you can worry about it all you like, but in the end...there isnt a lot you can do about it. Though it does show you just how insignificant we are to the universe.

    • Oh I don't worry about it a bit. I think it will be rather interesting!
  • I wish it would happen & aliens & everything gets blown up - I'm bored.
  • Good grief. Do you seriously expect people to read all that with no paragraph breaks?

It was probably an interesting post, but since you can't be bothered writing so that others can read it, I can't be bothered reading it.
