Problems for YouTube? Or not?

Rather a snit here over P&G ads being shown on ISIS videos on YouTube. The standard response from YouTube is the ads are "randomly placed" but are removed when someone complains. The explanation that follows says YouTube doesn't earn money from such ads.

People around here don't seem to be buying those explanations. Could this lead to problems with advertisers for YouTube? Or will it die down after a fuss or two?

I really don't think so. Many companies are redirecting their marketing budgets to digital advertisements, and I can't imagine this will have done them any harm

And, with respect to P&G, they previously admitted to targeting the Arab world here. I realise that Jihadi John's murderous cousin might not be their primary target, but I'm sure terrorists have to deal with just as many shitty nappies as the rest of us.

It's tough for YouTube. So much content, things like this will always slip through the gaps as there are only so many thing an algorithm can catch. People need to open up their minds to the challenges of running a business like youtube and be a bit more understanding.

I actually see ads that might make sense to less than .05% of the audience that youtube has, and they are VERY misplaced! The ONLY logical explanation is that they are randomly displaying ads on videos I watch with a preference for things I have looked at before.

With that being the case, it is possible that NON of you are seeing some of the ads I am. It is unfortunate that humans connect those dots, but YOUTUBE is likely telling the truth, except that they WILL make money on some of those ads. As for ME? I USE, and know about, things I may NEVER be able to buy, and WON'T, so the system isn't perfect.

I think it probably is a non-issue. It was surprising to me to hear an admission from YouTube that ads are always randomly placed because the volume of videos is so high.

How often do you hear an online entity admit lack of control of their own processes?
