What do you collect?

I wouldn't say I'm a hoarder, but I can see me heading that way in old age. I've even turned a portion of my hobby into an eCommerce business.

Here's what I collect:

- Badges
- Movie Memorabilia
- Horror Novels (signed, first edition, antique)
- Comics (see above)
- Gaming/ Arcade Machines
- Wives (only joking; still on my first)

You?

    • These aren't collections. I don't buy just to have a missing piece...

But I have an extensive library of first edition marketing and sales books...and related fields.

I buy the first editions, because sometimes the later editions have the text edited to be "updated", and the meaning is blurred. It's a vast library, but not really a collection.

I have several boxes of comic books, but I never bought them to collect. I just read them, and don't throw them away.

"Collecting" fills a need that I don't have.

  • I collect Claude Whitacre failures. I know it's silly to collect something so tremendously abundant, but each one is like a marvelous snowflake, inspiring and satisfying in its own unique way.

    • I collect discarded Riffles. That's an oxymoron. All Riffles are discarded. They have no value, and I can't resell them....

But every Riffle that I keep, prevents one from reproducing, out in the wild.

I looked up "Riffle" on Google, It said "Prickly little vermin, that....." , meaning that they have little pri...never mind.
    • WC told me that Claude at a disco is a-bun-dance to behold.

If you would like a catalog of Claude's failures. I can provide you with a list of the products he has sold over the last three years.
      • [ 2 ] Thanks
    • Want to compete? I bet I have more Claude failures.
      Here, I will start.
After consulting the better side of my nature, probably not a good idea.
      Btw, hi Claude -father!

    • Going by what I find when I need something, small rubber balls, drum keys, and dead batteries.
  • I wish I could surprise people with a revelation, but, I collect rocks - agates, crystals, petrified wood, jaspers, fossils. I don't buy em, though, I go out and get my own.

Also collect books of certain genres. I had 4000 and had to cut down. Now I just have reference books - health, rock and mineral, philosophy, stuff like that.

Oh - just remembered - I have a huge box of maps, too - from all over the US, mostly the Western states.

    • All kinds of bills, vet bills, utility bills, taxes, grocery store, pharmacy, etc. I'd love not to collect these things, but they just keep right on being delivered and won't go away. You can't even give these things away, no one else wants them and nobody on eBay will buy them. I think I need another hobby or sell everything worth anything and buy a tent to go live in the woods totally off the grid.
  • I collect pictures of a few specific US Presidents and a few other specific figures from US history: Washington, Lincoln, Jefferson, Hamilton, Jackson, Grant, and Franklin.

In fact, you made a clever post, and I acted like I just made a brilliant discovery, that nobody else would see....... And that's why I think it was funny.

  • I have and still try to find old Black Hills, SD memorabilia. My grandfather gave motor tours from the 40s through the 60s and I have a lot of his old material on Mt. Rushmore, Lead and Deadwood, out of the way and forgotten places. Can be quite interesting.

    • Have any of the agates or other minerals from there? I love that area. Wanted to move there once but as far as jobs - it's poverty with an awesome view.
    • This is fascinating, Steve. I've set the odd short story in these locations, but never dared expand into anything like a novella or novel for fear of giving myself too much opportunity to get things wrong. I bet your grandfather had some amazing stories to tell!

I collect books (the ones I really like) and I have lots of pen.
  • Picking, I collect what other people collect, usually older / hard to find items at around half the price or less than I can sell it for, and while I have it, it's part of my collection, then when sold it ads to another persons collection.

  • Let's see ...

    Dust
    Garbage
    Hand Tools
    Alien Skulls
    and Bottle Caps

That pretty much covers the list.

    • I used to love reading the villain's plans....their monologues. The language of Marvel villians was so much fun.

"You human scum have no inkling of the unfathomable power I possess. You Simpering Sycophants were born to be subjugated under my wrathful watch......For I am the Power, and you are the pawn!..."

I loved it. Every sentence was a speech.

  • I collect air. As a matter of fact I had one of the biggest collection of air
on record. I almost had one of every kind.

But, as you know some things get stale. I wanted to air mine out, but now I
can't find it. If anyone sees my collection of air, please send me a message.

Seriously, just today, my friend, Jeff and I were out garage selling (we weren't actually selling garages, we were buying junk) and I mentioned to him that if I had the room I would like to collect vintage audio/video products such as reel to reel, 8 trac and cassette players.

I would like to set it up as a showplace. I am glad for mp3 and digital video but I still like to see the old players.

I used to collect shot glasses, but the irony is, I don't drink alcoholic beverages...if I did, you can just about imagine what I would say that I collect.
