That strategy seems to be weirdly effective, LOL.

I think I'm basically a nerd (which is probably the accidental popular term for someone with high-functioning autism)

I had the identical reaction. I'd be very curious to see some sort of honest worked/failed ratio before scenes were cut and edited for the video. People generally tend to maintain a public filter when encountering strangers, and I'll daresay that young, pretty women can often present a stronger filter, since they tend to get approached more often, and many times in a less-than-respectful fashion. (Yes, I fully realize that I am making a stereotype here.)

I obviously don't know you, but from everything I've seen you post here, I certainly wouldn't peg you in this manner.

Oh well, it's not a bad thing if it is merely harmless idiosyncrasies that started in early childhood around 2 (stopping verbal communication until the age of 4, wtihdrawing, more interested in windmills and shadows than people). I know that in some people's minds, "weird" or "nerd" is somehow negative. To me, it really means differently tuned, meaning that acting "normal" takes some studious effort, Honestly, normalcy is not something I've ever totally mastered and it is an ongoing challenge. In my book, deliberately harming others is negative. Nerd is not. I'm a weird nerd and that's all right.

I wouldn't have guessed that ever, TB.

I must say, you are the most fun loving "nerd" that I have ever encountered!

My nephew (18) also has Asperger's and he just appears very shy not only in public, but around extended family members.

It's kind of odd because during the summer months when everyone sees everyone quite often, he appears completely normal at all of the summer gatherings and functions. But when Thanksgiving and Christmas and Easter roll around, he's very shy again. Then when everybody is seeing everybody practically every weekend during the summer again, he's opened up.

It is a cycle he goes through every year.

Well, I have heard the term NERD described in various ways. Only some appear necessarily autistic.

People on autism spectrum who are high-functioning (Asperger's) may not appear autistic per se, but are often socially awkward, ie nerdish.

You seem kind of differently tuned yourself, Steve. Your take on things is usually quite unique.

OMG Sumit! Look at that avatar. When the heck did you become an adult? You've turned from a sweet nerdy kid into a handsome young nerd man. JEEZ I am getting soooooo old. LOL.

I've got friends who are nerds. I wreck em, though. There's nothing like pulling a nerd off a computer and getting them back in the canyons and peaks or deserts and watching them pick up their first agate or piece of petrified wood or help build a campfire or collect wild food. It's awesomeness and a half. But it wrecks em as far as being nerds goes. They go drooling haywire - just like I did.

We have known each other far longer than we imagine haven't we?

I was 15 or 16 when we first talked. Ah time flies.

I wonder how many real phone numbers the guy got. I suspect some just gave him a made-up number to blow him off quickly.

yeah, my best friend in school was a nerd -

I too consider myself a bit of a nerd -

a person who is intellectually knowledgeable or bright, but socially inept.
hmmm - perhaps somewhat socially inept - I know I don't always fit in - but I no longer care

I'm more of a rebel with nerdy tendencies - hehehe

Yes, I have a few nerd friends, a few geeky friends, a couple of dorks, a couple of dumb jocks, a punker, some hipsters, a couple of metal heads, a big group of ravers, and one dweeb. And no, I'm not kidding.

And to be fair, I am not as nerdy as that guy in the video. I have plenty of friends and I will let you in on a secret. Some of them even think I am cool. They don't mention it that much, but I get the vibes.

    Sumit.
