Microsoft is Ending Internet Explorer

After the Internet Explorer brand was severely damaged with the release of IE6, Microsoft kept losing market share despite having fixed the browser. The marketing campaign intended to restore its image did little, so they are scrapping IE (mostly).

With Windows 10 Microsoft is expected to release a new browser, code-named Project Spartan. It's expected to be more like Firefox and Chrome.

Story: Microsoft is killing off the Internet Explorer brand | America's Markets

The new browser will not be based on IE, but is supposed to be a completely new browser from the ground up. What do you think? Is the IE brand the only reputation that is damaged, or is Microsoft's reputation as a browser vendor damaged enough that their new browser doesn't have a chance?

I read that data from focus groups have revealed that Microsoft's name attached to a new browser is considered positive. It highly surprised me considering what seems to be the general opinion of IE. I wouldn't think the general population would really consider the difference.

In my opinion, Firefox seems to have lost its edge and I just can't get comfortable with Chrome, so I'll give "Spartan" a shot.

How much of a dork does it make me that I'm kinda excited to try a new web browser?

Horrible browser. Few times I was forced to use it I hated every moment.

I found IE, and that's the latest one, to be a lot slower than Chrome and Firefox.

Chrome was tops for a long time but it seems to be getting a little problematical these days and losing ground to Firefox which has made improvements of late.

For sheer speed however, Chrome comes out tops and still the one i use.

I stopped using IE years ago because it was bloated.

Ironically I still use the IE webbrowser control in VB.net which is supposed to be the same version of whatever IE is installed on the the dev. PC but it doesn't function that way (PIA). Hopefully MS updates the 2015 VB.net browser control with this new browser.

IE was over a very long time ago. I will check out Spartan, but Chrome is everything I need. Firefox is now the new IE in terms of function. I'm not sure what happened. Mobile firefox is good though.
