Mars One Finalist Announces That It's All A Scam

Mars One Finalist Announces That It's All A Scam | IFLScience

I find this all hard to believe. I thought we were going for sure. Again, science lets me down, just as it was foretold.

I think the "funny" part is they had to announce it was a scam....first it was to be in 2018 - then in 2025...but it sure gave a lot of people something to write about. From "dying in space" to "is a birth on mars unethical"....just wow.

I didn't realize some people actually believed this - but apparently they did.

Well, the NASA finalist thought that it wasn't organized very well, or dodgy!

100 years, if the new drive works, then l doubt that it would take 100 years!

Maybe they will be like NASA and just keep putting the date forward indefinitely?

But it is their rover l am waiting for, that should get there soon!

      Well a few years soon!

I would guess that most people would believe it. You need a decent knowledge of physics, and cosmology, for the idea to sound harebrained. You need to ask questions that most would never think to ask. It isn't just critical thinking. It's having any idea of what would be involved in a project like this.

      Most people think this is a relevant argument;
30 year old person; "I'm signing up to go to Mars, to live the rest of my life"
Their Mom; "That's just silly. It's too cold up there. What would you wear? And what if you got sick?"

To most people, this would sound like the mother gave this trip some thought. They may even call the Mom a Skeptic. The near impossibility of such a mission (with present technology) doesn't occur. The cost per person, certainly billions of dollars per person...never dawns on them. The fact that the company putting the trip on has nothing, except a video and website....doesn't deter most people.

The idea sounds fun, and so it's real.

I just came from upstairs where some dude is starting threads pointing to HIS website and people are saying "good info" and "I agree".

After reading a few of the main forum threads, Mars trips sound logical.

    I personally never believed it.
No one in their right mind wanna go on a one way trip to a hostile planet.
I always figured candidates would back out at the last moment. ("Oh I have a tummy ache, can we skip Launch?")
Looks like a publicity stunt now.

      OK, there are those issues.

And...the fact that these guys had nothing, no funding, no technology to get us there, no way to survive on Mars. Nothing....except a Youtube video, a website, and a mailing list.

And there were some smart people going along with this idea. A couple of weeks ago, I watched an interview, on national TV, with one of the people that were going to Mars. The interviewers took it seriously, and so did the interviewee.

When imagination confronts reality, imagination wins. And think about this. We see this as silly. But we all believe things that are far sillier, with less justification.

They would have to be idiots to try & colonize Mars when they can't do the same on our own moon. At least with our moon there's a realistic chance of survival while testing new things.

I think Mars, although a lot further away has a better chance of more natural resources to use like water. Certainly better temperatures. Not as extreme as the moon.

The moon would be 100 percent, bring everything with you and be totally dependent on that.

Mars, perhaps a little less but to what extent remains to be seen.

As far as practicing, you could do that on Earth in a totally sealed environment.

We have had Biodomes before. They never work out. It may be because they aren't big enough...but for whatever reason, they haven't worked....not enough Oxygen produced.

I'm looking at the ages of the 100, a few don't make sense.

Why train a 60 year old person that will be 71 years old when they launch in 2026? Add almost another year of space travel just to get to Mars & he'll be 72 years old.

He'll be lucky If he survives the trip, let alone living on another planet.

Are they establishing a retirement home on Mars?

  • Breaking news: Today in the main discussion forum, an inexperienced newbie announces that "making money online is not possible, and That It's All A Scam!"

Thousands of major corporations and successful marketers are now considering closing up shop due to this newbies opinion!

    Pass it on....

Hey Claude, as you probably remember, I posted a thread in July 2013 (time flies...) mentioning this mission in its early stages.

My interest in this was partially because I grew up in the Netherlands, where the mars one project originates, and also because I, (and I believe you do as well), really would love to see humans venturing out and exploring other planets etc.

2 years ago the idea seemed farfetched, and there were many naysayers, and today, even after quite an impressive amount of worldwide attention to this project, well, there are still many naysayers, some within this thread.

Sure, with today's technology and funds available allot of plans seem "out there".

And as much as I see the challenges today in putting a human on mars, technology however was also lacking in many areas when Kennedy committed the U.S. to a manned lunar landing before "this decade is out." Somehow, they managed to do it using computers that have been compared to having the memory of today's pocket calculator.

From having a quick browse at the article you linked to, and some related stories floating around online possibly being picked up by the media, I can predict that every "expert" is going to be showing up on your favorite news station and giving their "opinions" about how Mars One's project is not feasible etc. (and to find out more about this expert you can simply visit their website or buy their book ofcourse).

I find it very sad that in today's society with so many rapid changes happening all over the world in all areas of food, medicine, business and technology, that some folks are still so closed minded to think that humans can't put a man on mars within a few years.

I still say, if anyone can do it, it's the Dutch!

So that's where you have been hanging out you little minx. So how are the Dutch going to get to Mars, gigantic windmills? Are there going to be giant hydroponic pot farms set up on the surface. They will certainly be able to save money on the Red Light area, the colors already there.

Thanks for asking, I'm doing well this year. After several medical procedures etc last year, (which made me contemplate my life and purpose even more than I normally do), I'm just keeping busy as I readjust my daily activities and business to make sure that I wake up everyday and serve some sort of useful purpose for humanity and this planet.
