I found this episode of the Twilight Zone pretty clever....

Watch The Twilight Zone - The Chaser Online - TV.com

Sorry, it only plays in the US, but it is about a 27 year old guy that is madly in love with a woman that isn't interested in him, but after he see's a guy with a potion, that changes!

Clever story with a twist at the end of course!

Buy the glove cleaner, he, he!

Found this also, it is the 1985 Twilight Zone, that has similarities with The Matrix. Sounds like a lot of movies got the original concept from these sorts of shows?

Goes for 10 minutes!

I don't have time to watch a whole episode - I think you can post a spoiler on this one.

Both Twilight Zone and Outer limits had a lot of themes that you can find in later fiction. Not sure who got what from whom, but there's always been a lot of theme sharing in fiction - all genres. The same basic story can be told one heck of a lot of ways.

      ****SPOILER ALERT******

Ok, Sal l will give the story away, don't read this if you want to watch it first....

I thought that it was clever, that he was nuts about her, and under normal circumstances she would have dumped him and that would have been that, but instead after taking the potion she falls sickeningly in love with him and stays that way for life!

Sometimes a bit of bad luck is a good thing long term!

As I recall, the seller said he created the glove cleaner for HIMSELF because he had the same problem.

The BEST of this type of twighlight zone episode that I like is the "what you need" one. I forget the REAL title! A crazy guy that seems to be just nuts, offers people little things that seem WORTHLESS, claiming it is what they need! A woman, for example, is depressed, and the guy gives her a cleaner that is supposed to be TERRIFIC. SHE, takes it kind of amused. A guy makes a phone call, as I recall, and finds out he has to get to an interview. He has a STAIN on his tie, she cleans it, they become friends, etc... Some guy seeing all this insists that the guy give him what he needs. The guy refuses. Eventually, he steals some slippery shoes from the guy, constantly asking the guy if they are what he needs. He ends up dying, and the guy answers, "NO, they were what *I* needed! YOU were going to kill me, and....". My apologies of how I may mess up the plot after so many decades, but that is basically how it went.

As for the love potion genre overall? My FAVORITE is "Love Potion #9", with Sandra Bullock! I won't spoil that for you though! It is funny, has drama, has caveats, etc....

I used to like watching the Twilight Zone, even if they usually always had weird stories. Now I barely watch anything at all on TV, unless it's a comedy or a news channel.

Yes, you got close, the main guy wins something, and then pressurizes him and wins some more, and then threatens him if he doesn't make him rich, then the shoes come out!

Sandra Bullock, must be the color 1980's ones?

Many of my childhood nightmares are the result of Twilight Zone episodes. I believe they were the first to do the dolls that came to life and I've seen a lot of offshoots from that idea since then. Another pioneer, I believe, was the Outer Limits. I think I've seen offshoots from those programs more than once, too.

This was the first movie that ever gave me nightmares:

Yeah, the twighlight zone did LOTS of shows about inanimate things coming to life, and I think MOST were things that could be considered dolls. MOST were probably scary to some degree. I think most that weren't started out appearing scary.
