Last movie l saw was Jupiter Rising, a great movie, eventhough the critics trashed it!

I thought that they portrayed a 15,000 year old sociopath admirably, although l would expect that they would have several high tech, self defense weapons on them, just in case.

A few guards that are a pushover, doesn't really portray realism!

And they could have portrayed Jupiters red spot with a bit more depth, (side views, like in Cosmos, for example)?

Did you see it in theatres? I wanted to see it but the critics bombed it so I told myself I would catch it on Netflix.

Hmmmm, l have learn't from experience that critics are into clever commentary and storyline, maybe dazzling visuals, but usually not!

So l went to see it expecting a crap storyline, predictable one liners, and drool worthy visuals.

Instead l got a good storyline, drool worthy visuals and unfortunately the usual dumb this gets destroyed and then that, eventhough it has been there for 10,000 years or so, geesh!

This movie reminds me of Stargate, with a bit of Rooper, and a bit of the Matrix. So, yeah, worth seeing all up.

The critics also said that Moulange Rouge was great, l wanted to slit my wrists at the end of that one, (my Mother roped me into that)!

And........... That's the part you thought didn't portray realism.

I saw it, and enjoyed it. But every time I heard Mila Kunis talk, all I heard was Meg from Family Guy.

Then watched an old movie I'd taped - "John Carter". I've been on a movie kick lately but only watch at home - no theaters for me.

I watched a documentary on Netflix the other day called "Maravilla", the story of an Argentinian Boxer named Sergio Martinez. It gives some of his history and leading up to his big fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in 2012.

He's considered by many, at that time, to be the 3rd or 4th best pound-for-pound boxer, having beaten fighters who were considered taller and stronger than him.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I gave it an 8. I've always liked Sergio and the documentary made me like him more.

I think you found the problem.

Excess CO2 in the atmosphere traps the suns heat, that has a knock-on effect of melting the ice at the poles which helps reflect it back into space. Methane gas trapped in solid, frozen ground and the sea bed also is released as it warms up. This is also a greenhouse gas.

Our population, which should really be a billion (the max the planets resources can take to support it comfortably) has risen 7 fold plus. Unsustainable. However much we innovate to elude and alleviate the demise of our resources the population must come down quickly.

Then we must consider all the electrical and mechanical power we need to sustain the infrastructure of such a huge population. The move from wood burning to coal, and now oil is still the most used solution. This puts the CO2 out there. We now realise this is a reckless way to go on but are so caught up with wars, politics, greed and just wanting to sustain our lifestyles, wealth and power, that there is reluctance and hesitation and fear.

Continuation on this path means a hotter world, the lack of fresh water (From normal pole cap feeds) and due to pole melting, losing fresh water to the sea levels which will rise and inundate a lot of low lying land. All this before the turn of the 22nd century. A nice legacy to to leave our children and theirs. But don't worry, we will all be dead by then so it does not matter eh!

I am not a fan of horror movies. Not because I don't like to be scared, but because far, far too often they fail to scare and are just plain bad.

But this was a fun, funny and a little scary. I'd definitely recommend it.

Yeah, this isn't a forum that a lot of people have friends who are geologists, or climatologists. I've stopped trying to reason with people who don't even understand underwater volcanoes or that glacial replenishment stops when the trees are cut beneath the glacier whether it warms or not. :smilies_rolle yes:

Talk about a classic ad hominem fallacy...

You're right. I don't have friends. I just have family a family member that started working for NCAR in the late 60s (although he's retired now), another that has been the weather reporter in his small town for over 30 years, another that's in the Coast Guard providing support for research ships in the artic.

But I do know a daughter of a friend that's a biologist studying the effects of climate change on coral reefs in the Caribbean. Does that count?

I never brought them up because I don't pretend they establish any authority for me.

    BTW Sal,

Even if your claim of underwater volcanoes and loss of trees are correct, you may want to learn the science of reflection, particularly of infrared light.

If ice is melting for whatever reason, it means less infrared light is reflected back into the atmosphere, since material that is white will reflect more infrared light than any other color. This means as more ice is melted from the Earth's surface, more infrared light is absorbed. And since it's infrared light that contains the heat energy in light, the Earth will absorb more heat if there is less ice (white) on the surface. And it could cause a runaway effect, as more ice melts, more heat is absorbed, so the remaining ice melts faster, so heat is absorbed at a higher rate and on and on...

Again, even if your theory is correct, it is contributing to man-made Global Warming as the deforestation is caused by man.

Science can tell the difference between man made CO2 and naturally occurring CO2 in our atmosphere on a molecular level. The increase in CO2 in our atmosphere is man made.

Only 2 out of 10? Whiplash is an excellent film. J.K. Simmons always brings his A game be it movie, series or insurance commercials. I had decided to boycott the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, but Miles Teller's performance in Whiplash may help change my mind. May.

I saw it for the second time today. Great story. And if you want to see a dozen superheroes battle it out with a thousand robots....it's Nirvana. I can't wait for the Director's cut on DVD.

Watched it in theaters twice, and once or twice on HBO (or some such thing)

Yeah, one of the best. There is only one time I've cried watching a Superhero movie. "We are Groot", did it. Truly amazing story telling.

I get it now (now that I'm awake)

When Drax said, "Behold!" it affected me. The scene where Star Lord is saving Gamora in space was a beautiful scene.

And, in the theater, when Star Lord said "We're The Guardians Of The Galaxy", nobody laughed. You really felt for these characters. I felt a little of that in Avengers, Age of Ultron, but it was because I was familiar with the characters, not because the story was so good.

Brilliant film. Intelligently written. In fact, you have to be pretty sharp...just to understand all the discussions.

Slightly disappointed in the ending. Not because it was a bad ending. It was well written and made perfect sense. I just don't like endings where justice isn't balanced.

Watched it in 3D ETX, if you are looking for a story line look elsewhere. If you want nonstop vehicular and combat action from beginning to end this is the movie for you. It was a crazy awesome fun time. Tom Hardy did a great job as Mad Max.

      "Chef", currently streaming on Netflix.

Watched it with the whole family, and everyone LOVED it, from my 10 and 14 yr old kids, to my notoriously hard to please mother-in-law. Even my father-in-law with two scotches in him had no trouble staying awake for the entire film.

      Highly recommended.

Edit: It is rated-R due to strong language, so keep that in mind if you intend to watch it with your own youngsters.

The last movie that I watched at the movie theatre was Avengers: Age Of Ultron. I gave it a 7 out of 10 rating for being entertaining and an overall good movie. I wasn't happy with the villan, Ultron, since having a robot enemy theme has been done to death. Can barely wait for when the fight Thanos......

The last movie that I rented was Birdman and I gave it a 8 out of 10. I thought the acting was superb, the writing was solid, and the overall story was pretty good. A lot of interesting camera angles from the director. The ending was kinda interesting.

I'm going to go see Ex Machina tomorrow night at the theatre.

I just watched San Andreas with my wife.

      Of course, amazing special effects.

Mind numbingly predictable, if you've seen movies like 2012, Deep Impact, Armageddon.

Every second, the heroes were just 2 inches away from certain doom. It reminded me of 2012.

I'm just jaded. I only cared about one old couple, that hugged a second before they died.

Dwayne Johnson is a certified action hero though.

Hot Tube Time Machine 2: 2/10

Rented it from Netflix since the first one made me LOL a couple of times. This second part was agonizing to watch and really not funny. Do not waste your time on this one.

Is this the porn knock off of Hot Tub Time Machine 2?

I didn't know you could get adult movies from Netflix.

Damn, there goes my next million dollar idea: Skinflix.

I watched RUN ALL NIGHT with Liam Neeson and Ed Harris and enjoyed it. I also watched a movie called EVERLY with Salma Hayek in it. She still has an amazing body for being 47 years old when she made that movie.

I watched Herbert And The Search For Happiness on Netflix Saturday night and I thought it was an absolutely delightful, feel-good movie. Definitely one of my favorite movies on Netflix now. I gave it a 9 out of 10 rating. It was good see Simon Pegg's range in the movie, I thought he did a great job demonstrating the different human emotions one can go through.

Spot on, RoD. The wife and I watched this a couple weeks ago. While I'm predisposed to like Pegg (the polar opposite of my Whitacre response) in anything, this was a solid little film on its own merit.

For some reason, though, I kept waiting for his fiance to slit his throat or set him up for murder...

I watched Terminator Genysis last week and loved it. Plenty of action, a decent plot, and my beloved Khalesi from GOTs playing Sarah Conner, so yes, I was immediately biased going in. I gave it a 8/10.

I heard a movie review of the movie the other day and the two radio DJs were making sound like it was the worst movie ever. They definitely did not like the movie.

I loved it though and will probably watch it again when it comes out on DVD or cable.

I have yet to see this, Claude liked it a lot and now you. I usually use Rotten Tomatoes as a yardstick (and sometimes agree with it) because it is based on a consensus of different reviewers and stats taken from the general public who have just viewed it.

The (reviewer) consensus rating for this movie was 27% out of a hundred, very poor, Movie goers gave it 67%, a lot different.

One wonders if the presence of Arnold, the premise of the subject matter, the enjoyment of the previous movies would be a factor in liking it. There seems to be a huge disagreement with seasoned critics and the general population. However that often works the other way, the movie is given 98 percent by the critics yet flops as far as the public is concerned.

Critics say oh, in the Terminator, each scene is explained as to why its happening by the actors dialogue, making the plot and story clear. So often in movies (and in life) I lose the plot completely.

Claude talked about seeing Predestination on cable (the sifi channel is showing it) It got a very high score on Rotten Tomatoes but never made it to the cinema. (or was there very briefly)

All very strange. Anyway, will go and see the Terminator because I love that sort of movie and liked the previous ones.

I saw that Lucy only got a 50 percent score on RT but I adored that movie. I think 50 percent or above, it's to most of us a good movie.

I think (but don't really know) that the difference between us and the critics, is that critics have to see every movie, whether they are fans or not.

So...fans of Arnold, and the Terminator movies, will enjoy it more, than the average critic, who may not be a fan.

The viewers who aren't fans, simply won't go see the movie. So we get a big difference between fan reviews and critic reviews.

Movies like Predestination are very cerebral. The acting was amazing (Sarah Snook was a standout), and you had to really pay attention to what was going on, to get it.

Think of who goes to the movies; Kids, young adults mostly. Does your movie have loud music, lots of explosions, constant jokes, or lots of gore? It will attract that crowd.

But Predestination had none of that. Just a phenomenal story. So...critics loved it, but very few went to see it.

Maybe if a Transformer was in the movie....

Terminator Genisys In Imax 3D My Review 10/10

        The Critics Score:
        IMDb: 7/10
        Rotten Tomatoes: 27%
        Metacritic: 38%

I can confidently tell you never to take another persons opinion(Critics) 100% let yourself experience anything, and then form your own opinion based on all the knowledge that has been assessed.

If you have never seen a Terminator movie or just Biased toward the Genre you will most likely slam it to the max or just hate it. Why is that? We hate what we do not understand.

Do you want to enjoy Terminator Genisys for all its Glory watch all the previous Terminator movies prior to watching this one.

Anyone will enjoy how masterfully crafted and intricate the film is. The acting was A Class, the Action was A Class, the Plot was A Class. It is a masterpiece! The best out of all of them!

You will not want to miss this great movie experience!!!

Last movie I've seen was 50 Shades of Grey.
It was not as good as the books..maybe just about 5 or 10 per cent at most.
For an R-rated movie you will expect a lot of nudity and dirty talk but you'd get more of that in an action movie..I should have just stayed at home at watch a rerun of Game of Thrones.
It was painfully dull..I am sorry

I cant stand James (Gandalf) Randi. Only good thing about him is he's old and will pop his clogs soon ( then he will know one way or the other)

He had a half hour show debunking psychics on British TV not that many years back. My friend, Petrene, (who makes her living as a psychic and was a minor celebrity in the Uk before she moved to TX. She got on tv and radio quite often) got a call

He invited her on his show and he wanted her to match up 5 wallets with 5 other personal belongings that 5 people owned. Time and time again she got 5 or 4 out of 5, consistently. Just the one time she got 2 right and of course that was the footage he used in the show. (acclaiming, you see, just what you would get with chance) This episode ended early as a big argument broke out with the audience.

Many stories about his famous million dollar/pounds offer to be given to anyone who could prove psychic phenomenon have emerged. People have shown him inexplicable things and if he could not come up with an explanation he would just say fake anyway and not release the money.

To serious, objective scientific research into this phenomenon the man is a charlatan in the worst sense of the word.

By the way, today we saw Ant Man. Much smaller in scale than The Avengers, but a fun little movie. Plenty of cameos of other Marvel characters. Footage of Ant Man and The Wasp was a real treat. If you watch it, stay until the end of the credits.

          8.1/10·IMDb
          79%·Rotten Tomatoes
          64%·Metacritic

I caught it a little late I think we missed the first ten minutes caught it right when Ant Man was getting punched in prison. (If any can fill me in on what happened prior to that I would appreciate it!) I must say it was alot better than what I expected. It was a very small scale super hero movie with a great story. Very funny as well! It was cool to see the different Ants in Imax 3D! My son enjoyed it!!! Stayed for the secret clip after credits worth it

In the first few minutes, I think Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) went into an office with Howard Stark and Peggy Carter, and some other guy. Douglas was angry at the company for wanting to use his Ant-Man suit for military purposes.....and Douglas punched the guy in the face. Michael Douglas was made much younger with CGI. It was expertly done too.

Added later; I just watched The Afflicted. It's a 2014 horror movie. It was made by two young men,for about $300,000. It's really quite good.

        7/10 My Review

I was very hesitant to go see it in Imax. But none the less I went and was kind of disappointed in the movie to be honest. For all the hype around it I expected something grandeur like the other movies in the Mission Impossible Series. It was not boring by any means but not worth the Imax movie ticket and better left as a Netflix rental.

I rented IT FOLLOWS the other night, a horror flick that was more paranormal than actual horror. It started off slow and there were hardly any special effects in the movie, but for some reason, the movie drew me in.

I liked the premise and the whole mystery surrounding on what in the heck was following the girl. Over all I gave the movie a 6 out of 10. It was interesting enough where I was able to watch the whole movie, but I didn't like the ending.

The ending sucked. Yes, I will watch the sequel.....
