> When texting, I can backspace (delete backwards), but there's no "delete" button (ability to delete forwards).

> As I am typing, it suggests certain words (3 possible words are visible), and when I type the next letter, it (logically) eliminates any of those 3 suggestions that no longer qualify, and replaces them with words that do qualify (makes sense).
BUT, shouldn't it replace ALL of the 3 words, no matter what, because when I type ANOTHER letter, it must mean that I have NOT chosen ANY of the possible suggested words (even the ones that DO qualify)! ---- No?

Anyhow - this is a list that you can contribute to.

PS: I have my stopwatch out to see how long it takes Claude + Co. to hijack this one into KewKewLaLaVille. (((sigh)))

Nothing deletes forward on any device, computer or otherwise, there was never any call for it. You sure come up with some strange questions.

EDIT: just tried it and it does (delete key), personally never have the need to delete forwards anyway. Usually just put the cursor to the right of what I want to omit and backspace. I tend to do what most people do, write some text, review it, and place the cursor to the right of the text I want to omit (in various places) backspace and re-type. I bet the delete key is the least worn down key on most peoples keyboards.

        Huh?

My desktop + my laptop can delete forwards all day long. That's what the "delete" button does! (on a PC -- macs have it the other way around).

            Double huh?

Are you saying the delete key and the backspace key do the same thing?

            I want to eliminate something.

If my cursor is to the RIGHT of what I want to eliminate, I hit the "backspace" key, and letters get eliminated "backwards."

Conversely... If my cursor is to the LEFT of what I want to eliminate, I hit the "delete" key, and letters get eliminated "forwards."

One of us IS on a different planet, and I'm pretty sure it's not me.

Dammit! I just tested this and my diary deleted Monday. Now I've bought too much milk.

        Apology accepted.

Also, I think you would lose that bet. You are making that wager in the context of your own (recently former) ignorance. Additional FYI: The "3" key is the one that looks kinda like a backwards "E."

One thing you could help me with then, when I hit the Cursor key it always types F$%K on the screen.

This best explains why this function doesn't exist on smartphone keyboards.

Look, those things have limited computer power, so features not used commonly get tossed out. Not a big deal, and it's not a conspiracy either.

Having a delete key wouldn't require any more "computer power."

Actually, it would....though not very much, but it would require more.

It's the beauty and the curse of the smartphone....there simply isn't the raw computing power of a desktop, so you have to shave everything off imaginable just to make it work.

An tenth of an ounce here, a tenth of a ounce there.....it all adds up.

It makes for less features....it also makes for nice, tightly written, compact code that not only works, but doesn't crash very often.

The pluses and minuses of it all.

I've often wondered at the "smartness" of a smartphone ever since my daughter got hers a few years back. I wanted to find out just how smart it really was so I started asking it some perplexing questions.

I first asked it if there really was a Santa Claus. After a bit of searching, it said in that annoying female voice that it couldn't find the answer.

I then asked it where babies came from and it just said their mothers.

Then I asked how old are you when the tooth fairy quit exchanging money for teeth.

It then said, "I don't like your questions." Hahaha!

LMAO - right? It drives me crazy to watch people type back and forth on a phone.

      Consumer mindset.

I hate watching young people on a date. Instead of talking to each other, they're texting someone
who is not on the date.

        >>>>>>>>>>

PCs delete forward and back. Apple just does backwards. (Unless things have changed and that might be default settings.) Maybe the same on smart phones?
