So...I conquered the swamp yesterday!

I got up the nerve and went to the swamp to explore it yesterday.

And what did I find? Well, that it is very shallow, lol! Only about 10 inches deep and full of very clear water.

It does have a fallen tree running all the way across broken in a couple of spots. I walked all the way across it and back and didn't even fall in.

There are a couple of ducks swimming in it, but that's about it.

You certainly couldn't hide a dead body in there.

Now what am I going to do for excitement?

Rent a Bobcat and start clearing out drainage lanes?

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Ha! It's in the neighbor's yard, not mine.

I'll leave all of that excitement for him.

I think I'd rather build a dock for the pond in front, or get out the kayak and cruise around in it.

You mentioned that you couldn't hide a dead body there...so there goes my idea.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Don't worry Terra, when the puppy arrives, no doubt you will be saying get out of there, Fang, that is where the dead body's are hidden?

Well, I assumed you meant you couldn't hide an adult dead body there....so it's obviously Riffle. It will also help, that nobody will be looking for him. I get his car. You can have his swampy body, to do with, as you wish.

So you went trespassing, Terra? I hope that thing drains and you don't get loads of skeeters.

How big is your pond you can boat around in it? The plan where some relatives of mine live has a large "lake," more like a really giant pond, separating the homes on the next street from theirs; it's around 12 feet deep. Their homeowners' association stock it with fish a little bit in the summer for fishing.

They all also have to spray their grounds to keep the water bugs down and have installed a couple aerators (as well as spray this pond/lake) to stop the skeeters. Organic bug killer goes on the lawns. Not so sure I would trust that stuff myself, even if it is "organic."

These relatives have a kayak as well as a little paddle boat they enjoy in the summer.

I'm not sure as I've not measured it, lol!

But here is an overhead view if that helps?

We do get our yard sprayed with organic mosquito spray and there are the fishies in the pond to keep down the mosquito population there.

Yep, trespassing but the neighbor's two dogs trespass into my yard so we're cool! Haha!

Is that main road paved? If it is, it's not the road I was thinking you are on (or off).

No cars in the swamp huh? Well, I did my part - I told ya it was there.

Did ya check for those little grey salamanders with the yellow spots? I had a few of them as pets as a kid. They're cute. Big for salamanders, and I don't know how destroyed the ecology is up there now, but they'd have been there in any self respecting swamp 40 years ago.

Net trip out you have to tell us about the creek/river.

No, it's dirt- grated and hard packed and so full of big holes right now, there's no need to go off road to baja, lol!

No, but I found a black one with yellow spots. I found him under a clump of damp leaves when I was cleaning out one of the flower beds.

One of these days I'll hike all the way back to the end of the property where Sashabaw Creek is. Thus far, I've only gone about a quarter way into our woods. I think I'm going to wait until it gets a tad bit dryer around here.

Maybe you could make a story about fear, and use your 'swamp' as an example?
