Need tech gods please, mac problem... (Emergency)

Is there a way I can download my Mac hard drive to an external device without it getting past the White mac screen?

Essentially this is my error



I can not enter safe mode, shift does nothibg and my dissertation is due in 13 days, while I have most backed up Id rather not loose 3k words!!!

Any help would be great!!!

Gotta love a £3k iMac after 2 and a half years!

      Difficult to read all that but enough to make out your hard disk has probably failed. Same problem Sal had, my friend had. Apple are quite sympathetic to users, you never know, take it to an Apple store.

    Apple stores are backed up for 2 weeks so I had to go third party, don't care if the computer is scrap after I just need one file. Litterally praying that this guy knows how to get that one file!! Thanks Sal, I now know your pain

    I MIGHT be able to help you, but we are NOT in the 18th century anymore!!!!!!!!! SERIOUSLY, WHY even BOTHER "taking a picture"? The last such picture I had migt have actually been BETTER, and IT looked like it was taken through an airconditioning vent, from above, 20 feet away! I am NOT kidding!

    Tell you what. Go get a photographer from the 19th century, with a tintype, and have him take a picture of the screen. It might look better. Of course a normal picture from the 20th, or 21st centuries would work fine ALSO.

      Taken on an iPhone... I do apologise I didn't break out the tripod, the camera with the big lense and get the lighting correct for you. That being said, it is easily readable from my phone so I don't see the problem. Furthermore, took it to a specialist and he replaced a load of stuff and manage to salvage the file I needed, mods feel free to lock.

        Well,I have a headache today and just looking at the BRIGHT, BLURRY text is enough to hurt, so NO THANKS! If he replaced a load of stuff maybe if he knew more about it, he could replace LESS!

    If that was a PC you could have booted from a Linux CD (free), grab the important file, replace the hard drive. Done.

    ...or pull the hard drive from the PC, change the drive to Slave & daisy chain to another working PC, grab the file. Done.

    ...or remove the hard drive, open the hard drive case, try & boot the PC while barely taping the hard drive platter arm. I did that once & salvaged all files from the drive.
