What do you think of this group?

My favorite style of music is crossover (or popera) a blend of pop and opera and my favorite group is Il Divo. I've found another group though, Il Volo, and these are 3 Italian kids in their 20's. To say they're phenomenal is an understatement. For me they're the closest to Il Divo that I've found, expecially one kid in particular.

My only problem is I've only found 2 songs that I really like (just don't like their choice of songs), but these 2 are fantastic.

The first one Mas Que Amor, they sang the English version at the Nobel Peace Prize. The second one at the Latin Billboards Awards.

If you don't watch the videos, but simply listen to the music you'll hear one kid that is absolutely amazing. I must say he's one of the best singers I've ever heard... bar none! He's the kid with the glasses. To be that young with a voice like that is incredible.

Enough rambling... I'll let you watch the videos. Hope you enjoy them.

They're talented to the nth degree - obviously. Having said that, I don't know what I think of it. While listening to the first song I was thinking it's not my style at all. It seemed like "high brow" music and I like music with a little grit and bite to it.

But then I played the second song, and liked it much better than the first. I may even play the second song again. It's not something I'd be likely to buy, but I can see why others with more refined tastes than I have would like it.

Actually, I definitely don't consider myself as having 'refined taste' at all. It just happens to be the kind of music I like. Just like I don't care for opera at all, but I like a blend of opera and pop.

It's all relative, Jenny. I said "more refined taste than I have." If you don't eat dirt you have refined tastes.

Just teasing - but I thought if you hadn't heard of E.S. Posthumus you might like this:

Those boys definitely have great voices, and I think they'll be even better after another 10-15 years' maturing. Would be interesting to hear how they develop.

Jenny, I agree that the song selection is all-important in "popera". But when they get it right, the results can be phenomenal. One of my favorite songs in that style is Andrea Bocelli's hit from twenty years ago - one of the best-selling singles of all time (although, strangely, not in the US). I'm sure you know it well, but indulge me anyway.

            Frank,
It's funny you posted that video... that's the song that first got me interested in popera. I listened to every version Brightman sang, and from then on I was hooked. Liked the Italian best (the English version was last on my list).

Did you ever see her PBS special 'Symphony'? Absolutely fell in love with Alessandro Safina. Now that guy can sing!!

Wow, now that is one lively, action-packed song. I like it. And you're right, I've never heard of E.S. Posthumus.
          Thanks!
