Ben & Jerry's Says They're Working on a Vegan Ice Cream

Animal advocacy org FARM USA (along with 21,000+ consumers) has been clamoring for Ben & Jerry’s to add vegan ice cream options to its lineup.

They recently launched a campaign to that effect, and FARM’s effort was centered around the company’s Free Cone Day, April 14th.

So yesterday, FARM held demonstrations at shops across the country, having people hold up signs saying “I want dairy free ice cream because …” scrawled with different reasons.

Looks like the effort got Ben & Jerry’s attention, because yesterday, via Twitter, they told FARM USA: “We hear your feedback and share your dream. We’re working on it.

FARM USA has been directing attention to a popular petition that’s been making the rounds for awhile. The petition owners, Jenny Foy and Doug Reed from Charlottesville, VA, are asking people to Tweet the following:

" So excited that @BenAndJerrys is “working on” a dairy-free ice cream! Sign & share to support yummy vegan ice cream: hxxp://cct(dot)ec/3bfJe+ "

Sign the petition, if you haven’t already, because who wouldn’t love some vegan Americone Dream?!

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

That vegans are getting excited about this shows just how sad a life without bacon must be.

It won't last. The vegans are too weak to scoop the ice cream.

(OK, Of course I'm joking. I have no idea what it would taste like. And vegans are really weak. It's just a joke, folks)

Have these "people" been living under a rock? There are several brands of vegan ice cream available at most stores, and those have been around for at least a few years now.

Personally, if I'm going to eat ice cream I want the real thing.

This is stupidity. There's a reason it's called Ice C-R-E-A-M. If they don't want cream or milk in it - it's a different thing completely.

Factory farm milk and regular real dairy are two different things. If you eat the garbage most stores call "yogurt", you're not getting the benefits of real yogurt, you're also not getting the rich full flavor. If you try some Stonyfield french vanilla - you will never touch another yogurt that isn't organic.

I can empathize with someone not eating animal meat because of philosophical objections, but eggs, milk, cheese, and butter have a lot of essential minerals and enzymes in them that vegans are usually severely deficient in and those foods don't kill the animal. We do need people to eat animal product lightly enough we can tank factory farms, but not eating any animal based food is not natural. I don't like to try to outsmart nature. My teeth and my need for vit B12, zinc, etc tell me I'm an omnivore.
