Sad and clueless. Can someone like this actually be helped? Is it wrong to tell them they need to find something else to do with their life? I don't know. I'm just asking.

Cheers. - Frank

The fascinating thing to me is that there are people who are offering advice, trying to help.

My ex-wife, from decades ago, recently bought a "Make money online" course from an infomercial. She called me when it arrived and asked; "I just got this course on making money on the internet. I've never been online. So, how do I make money?"

When I told her that it would take at least several months, just to learn how to use a computer, send e-mails, and do an online search (she had no idea what that was) ....she was angry.

"You make money on the computer. Why won't you tell me how to do it?"

Honestly, Every time a word started to form, I just stopped. I knew nothing I would say, would help.

              Oh sure.

              Mary - meet Mother Theresa.

I think it's been too long since we've had a humanitarian effort in the OT. Maybe we should set up a day that the OTers will barrage the main forum with truth be told - en force. It might shock the little affiliate, dollar article writers, but it might do them good to see a whole army of people in their right minds about business hit them the same way they hit a lone sane person when they stumble into a thread and try to spread some truth.

              Got your parasol handy, Mary?

Sometimes the best thing you can do is be brutally honest. Making money on the internet, or being self employed, etc. is NOT for everyone.

Extraordinary, buys a make money online course and does not own or know how to switch on a puter? Perhaps she thought on-line was performance tightrope walking?

I have built websites and helped a friend of mine maintain and do stuff related to her business on her various computers for 12 years now (for a fee) She can just about send and receive emails, she still cant copy and paste and surfs the net by typing web addresses into googles search box, not the browser address bar. Her inability to learn just basic stuff is beyond belief.

Another friend who expressed an interest in making money online, owned a mac, surfed the net and sends emails via an online service wanted to join forces, collaborate. I showed him how to do various things, run a simple keyword search using some software, real, patient, I was, step by step instructions. sent him away to come up with single keywords that were highly searched and had low competition. (The software did that) After weeks of gales of free air blowing through my inbox, finally, he was ready to send me something.

Instead of just a few choice keywords he just copied and pasted the entire search results screen. I gave up after that.

I just visited the SEO forum for the first time in a long time. When did they add that "overview" of what SEO is at the top? The overview itself looks like an amateur attempt at SEO.

Dennis, looks like they've done that with other subforums as well (not sure when that started).

You'd think a company like Freelancer could at least find a decent writer for these "overviews". The first sentence of the overview for email marketing starts out:
Email marketing is a powerful one to many online marketing strategy...
        Social media marketing:

It can be a very effective one to many marketing channel to reach a large group of people.
        Um, okay...

Yea, that's an SEO fiverr gig that's been up there for about a month, they struggled with the $5 budget but eventually nailed it. The quality was in the intent, not so much the actual content.

They're currently ranking #35 for the over optimized keyword search engine optimization which brings in well over 3 unique traffic per month from rural India.

Congratulations goes out to the team that made this happen.

Yes, that is the crux of it, someone goes online see's a Make Money while in your underpants and tossing midgets, (small people, political corrected) on Clickbank and they spend years in the "Shiny Object or Bust mode".

It typically takes 5 to 7 years to make it online, (it has taken me almost 7) so most newbies with a shiny object syndrome, (or SOS) in their eyes, Definitely Don't want to hear that!

I don't go upstairs much either, because l got fed up with helping others, and seeing them vanish, or accept the advise and vanish.

It is easy for a seasoned marketer to give advise, very hard for someone who just learned that a mouse isn't something a cat plays with, to accept it!
