Hi Guys

As I recently heard that some tenants are fraudulently selling their landlords' properties, I decided to sign up for alerts. I visited the site below and under "Track Changes to the Register" clicked on "sign up to get property alerts" but was concerned when I saw that the url is in red and there is an 'x' over the padlock. I would appreciate someone explaining what this means. Is the site genuine? Is it unsecured?

  • Yes I am. What does it mean?

    • It means that Google Chrome does not like sites with "SHA1 certificates" that expire on or after 2017/1/1, and which contain SHA-1-based signatures in the validated chain. Therefore you may see the red https and a padlock.

Since it's a .gov and an https site, personally I would have just gone ahead and signed up for whatever I was intending to.

What it also means is that if you used another browser, (Firefox perhaps) you may not have been aware of this.

But what it really means is that the site has not updated it's SHA1 certificates,
and I will lend you the mysterious box I found, to use if you are really interested in more info.

A quick search however showed a pretty detailed article here:
