    Simply clean your desktop area everytime you will use it.Dont eat in the computer area so that the food crumbs will not fall and spread.

    Have you ever smelled isopropyl alcohol? I don't think IT is great to inhale EITHER. And wiping down the cords probably just confuses ants that are following a trail by a scout. Outside of that, I can't see the ants being affected by its residue. The SCOUTS probably found something on the table, or residue from your hands when you touch the cords. They leave a trail that other ants follow because it says "HEY GUYS! FOOD IS HERE!!!!!"
