Man I never heard of Chongqing until Matt Furey just tweeted that it has 28 million inhabitants.

I looked it up on google and its very similar to New York city - not coastal but it has a similar layout with the isthmus like manhattan island and the rivers.

They should be sister cities.

    Sister cities?
Does that mean New Yorkers or down stater's as we call them would have to learn how to pronounce and spell Chongqing?
There's a reason why we named that city after the state you know.
First they only have to remember one name, and second they only need to learn how to spell 2 words.

Going by the map, I'd say the Yangtze.
It is what the Hudson used to look like though.
I'm about 160 miles up river from NYC and grew up on the Hudson.
When I was a kid we would swim at the black bridge at the north end of Green Island.
You would stand on the bridge and wait for the sewage to pass, then jump in and hurry out before the next batch floated by. We also used to light the oil slicks on fire when we could.
The state has already cleaned the river up a whole bunch and has made G.E. start dredging to remove all the PCB's they dumped in the river.

You got that right Gareth, it is one big city.
I'm as glad I don't live there as I am I don't live in NYC.

The fifth picture down reminds me a little of Hong Kong, the most beautiful city I've ever seen, with Sydney a close second.

        Hi Gareth,

Blimey! Followed that link, scrolled down below just the first block of photos, and then the long 200m+ list - just below that is something called 'magic mountains.'

After skimming through the rest of that page, and seeing how it's growing by 800k people per year (see the comment above the sat photo in comment #19) - it makes my island (UK) seem very small and humble...the sheer scale of things in China is incredible.

I was in New York recently but just for a day. And all I got to visit was Times Square. I was thinking that I should go back again. Now I should start thinking of Chongqing too I guess, considering that it is so alike to NY.

Great article and picture! It really does look like NYC. I've been to Manhattan several times and loved it. I definitely need to go check out Chongquing one day.
