I'm in the market for getting pet insurance for Lexi and I was just wondering what pet insurance you guys use and recommend.

Last night, hubby was looking at Petplan. Have any of you heard of it?

Greetings. I use Petplan for Twiggy and Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI) for Honey. It's a long story. :-)

So you would recommend Petplan then? It's a good one?

I rarely recommend anything to anyone. lol All I can tell you is I have been with them for years and they have paid all claims. The cost is very low for the peace of mind that such insurance provides. It's pretty much of a no-brainer and there aren't really that many companies to choose from, last I checked into it.

        Cheers. - Frank

He was also looking at Pet's Best.

Do you mind me asking which option you went with and how much it is monthly withPetplan? If you don't want to say it publicly, sending a PM is fine.

          Thanks!

You're asking the guy who can't remember what he had for dinner last night. It's auto-deducted from personal checking so I never paid much attention. I believe it was around $17 per month. I generally purchase top-shelf coverage and then forget about it. I am aware of the fact that when she turned 15 years old, her policy started costing $35 per month. This is standard with all companies. Additionally, with a dog, if you do not upgrade to the best package before their 10th birthday, you will never be able to do so. The older they get, the better coverage you need. Duh.

            Cheers. - Frank

              Thanks again, Frank.

The brochure he got was saying as low as $16 per month and we did want to go with the highest coverage and was just wanting a ball park figure. Plus we'll get 5% off if we sign up online rather than through snail mail.

I'll tell Hubby it's a good one and we'll go with it.

Frank, do you have a preference for one plan over the other?

I've toyed with the idea of pet insurance, but never got a clear read from the research I've done.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

Not really. I had them both on VPI but billing got screwed-up and Twiggy was dropped. When I tried to get her re-upped they wanted to up her rate, so out of spite I went with Petplan, for her. I'm nasty, that way. ;-)

Baby was extremely sick for over 3 months before she passed. Her final bills were over $2k. The insurance paid all but a couple ancillary charges not directly related to her medical care.

I've reached the point in life where I no longer try to convince people that it would be in their best interest and why. With that in mind I can honestly tell you that the three things that I get thanked for the most are 1) suggesting that someone purchase a Mac, 2) suggesting that someone buy pet insurance, 3) signing up for my emergency stud service - I'm on call 24/7.

I equate folks that pass on pet insurance with those individuals that would never consider off-site computer file back-ups. While losing a pet is much worse than losing your computer, you can always rescue another pet. Once your computer files are gone, they are gone forever.

So, in closing - get pet insurance and back up your files off-site. You'll never sleep more soundly in your entire life. :-)

      End of sermon. :-)

      Cheers. - Frank

Wait, wait... does your third service suggestion put one to sleep, too?

Have you heard about Claude Care. It advocates a strict regimen of no exercise whatsoever, two delicious meal replacements per day consisting of dounut flavoured...dounuts and drinking gallons of high caffeine Starbucks mocha coffee.

    Hi,

We've used several but I can tell you that each one of them refused to cover a dog who had already been sick before we tried to get the insurance.

      Greetings,

I'd look into that a bit deeper. As long as your dog gets a clean bill of health you can get insurance. Obviously, if there is a major pre-existing condition, that would not be covered.

Just another reason to purchase insurance the day you bring your pet, home.

      Cheers. - Frank
