Hi All,

We all make mistakes, right? What's the "best" or "funniest" fail/mistake you've made recently, or of all time?

I guess I'll start this off:
So, yesterday I bought a new .com domain name, thinking I hit a good one, wondering why nobody had bought it yet. Turns out I bought siezethemoment, and miss-spelt seize..
That's pretty likely to be the reason.. Ahaha Woops!

I even double checked to make sure that's what I wanted.. Oh well, I will need to triple check next time

Hoping other people share their stories, could be interesting

My mistakes are not really funny. They're boring mistakes that were made by-decision.

HA! I've done that before. Here's a few funny mistakes Ive made recently.

BOTH these mistakes relate to an incident where I lost my business credit card in NYC. When I lost it, my bank canceled it and sent me a new one immediately. No big deal.

    Resulting mishap 1

While in NYC I launched numerous campaigns. These included media buys, facebook and other PPC buys..... and even some PPV.

The traffic was going to a number of different places..... to my agency, to squeeze pages, etc for my various businesses. Prior to launching these ads, I checked that the sites for which this traffic was intended ware working in top shape. Perfect. I unleashed the beast.

BUT...... I run it all through a tracking software that is hosted on a DEDICATED domain. Didn't think to check THAT.

Remember the lost and subsequently replaced creditcard? Turns out that when I canceled it, it caused the domain of the TRACKER to fail its "auto renew" on godaddy.

Oops! Couldn't figure out why ALL my campaigns resulted in a 0% ROI.

Even when I was a newbie.... I'd always manage to get something.

All that traffic landed on GoDaddys "for sale" page. That'll do it.

    Resulting mishap 2

I own a large taxi company here in Eugene. When there are special events, we get REALLY busy. Like hammered.

There was a large scale event in town last week and in anticipation of this, I added extra cars as well as dispatchers:

Come "game time", the onslaught never came. It was DEAD. The dispatchers were doing stuff like facebook and watching YouTube videos:

On the large monitor on the wall there's a map and each car appears on the map as a dot (GPS tracking). We can literally WATCH our cars move throughout the city.

They were all completely still. Parked at places like Starbucks, downtown..... Just sitting their waiting.

it was unreal. The entire company was at a stand still.

It was the kind of dead where we call ourselves to see if the phones are actually working and THATS when we figured it out.

That lost credit card bit me TWICE. It got declined so my phone company suspended the phones.

I paid the bill immediately. Within minutes the company came "back to life".

I had to change my bank account and my card about a year ago, and at that point, I decided to (finally) get serious about this very problem. As I contacted each provider with the new card information, I also added an entry to a single document with all of their account info, so as to simplify the whole process if/when I have to do it again. I've also stayed disciplined since, updating the document every time I add a new recurring/auto-renewal payment on that card/account.

Yeah, it seems like a straight-forward, obvious move, but I've also gotten bitten by similar incidents, so, lesson learned.

If by 'Best' mistake you mean biggest, I bought a hosting plan with iPage (for my lower-end sites and for domain landing page sites). They tried to extort me (long story) and caused so much stress I wanted to beat my head against a wall.

If by 'Best' you are meaning how well a mistake turned out then I have a similar one to yours. I registered a domain and misspelled because I was in a hurry. I didn't realize till a week later because I was busy and just bought the name as a back-burner project.

After I realized I had misspelled the domain I just parked it and had no plans to do anything with it. Eleven months goes by and then just before time to drop it I got an offer for $500 for the domain. I didn't want the potential buyer to make the same mistake so I told him it was a typo. He told me that's why he wanted it. He wanted to develop it and start a new brandable name website.

So, I took the offer (since I was planning on dropping it anyway) and we both wound up happy. I guess I should just chalk that one up to luck.

Ahh that worked out quite nicely then! I'm probably just going to run with the domain I bought as I think I can make it work. Thanks for sharing!

Actually, misspelled domains can be lucrative given that you still get results based upon the domain name. People still misspell that word so you might be top of the listings for that phrase, Then you could re-direct the domain to the correct one.

I remember when I first got into IM people used to actually register misspelled domains. Not sure if they still do. (This is along with the right one, please realize.

My biggest mistake was my ex. Trust me on that one.

I checked the seizethemoment domain after I bought this one and it's for sale.. but for over £4.2k I'm not gonna bother... (Not that I have the money for it anyway) LOL - I could probably get another extension instead of the .com but after thinking it through a little today I'm just gonna roll with it.

I recently found 2 golf clubs as I was walking off the green and immediately saw the course marshal riding by so I gave them to him to find the owner.

Next hole, I discovered that they were my own clubs that I forgot that I had layed down while I putted.

My playing partner made sure to tell everyone we saw that day.

Nice story about your making a mistake. We all make mistakes and we should be very careful about misspellings. In computer programming if we make a little mistake then it will stop a big program running and fixing that problem should be very time consuming.
I am very careful for making mistakes in computer programs, however, in hurry, i also make some mistakes. I think we should check two or three times before submitting forum online. I have also made a mistake when i submitted some payment over the Internet just simply clicking on the submit button and when i felt it had not responded i clicked on it once more, and when I checked my account the amount debited two times in my account. Later, i have claimed for the amount but it put me in stress until it was recovered. It was really a big blunder.
So, I suggest you to be careful while submitting forums online for dealing with financial applications.

We all make mistakes and some times they are blessings in disguise.

Forgot to register for a tracking link on my very first solo ad run. Got no stats. Thank goodness my SA provider had stats. So when my coach asked for the details, I could give that to him.

The blessing? I am now on it to make sure I get that tracking link for all of my Solo Ad runs.

My biggest mistake was not in IM. It was in rea life. I have purchased a BMW 316 in August 2013. Though it was a good deal. When I arrived home, the next day the car starts to make some ... lets stay not common sounds (lol). After 1 week my BMW would suddenly just turn of the motor by itself and the funny thing is that the car then would not start again for atleast 10 minutes. So after this happend a few times I took my BMW to a garage. Cost to repair: $7000 for a car that was $2000 worth

Never made that mistake again to buy a car from a dude I know through an online car sales page.
