Lexi is getting so big! I had no idea pups could triple in size in just their first 3 months of life. I guess when I was a kid, I never paid attention. But being a puppy momma is so much different, LOL!

I guess that means she's completely healthy now anyway.

      Thanks Suzanne!

The bottom two pics aren't the most flattering, but that's what she looks like when she's seriously intent on getting the Frisbee, haha!

Tarra; Really a beautiful little dog. And almost nothing is more fun than seeing a puppy enjoy itself.

They say the puppy looks like the owner. Your puppy looks fun, happy, contented, and loved.

First of all, her name is Terra. If you cared about anyone other than yourself, you'd know that.

Second, you actually described one of my dogs to a T.

You forgot cute, you did say I was cute once, but that thread got deleted. Remember? It was the one where you said that Riffle stuttered whenever he talked about me, lol!

Oh, I forgot to ask you guys a question...

I can't decide whether she looks more like her mom, a Beagle or her dad, a Doxie.

            Which do you think?

Or do you think she's a pretty good mix?

I like the two pictures at the bottom. They show her in her playful state. She has a lot of Doxie look to her. I'd say there's an even 50/50 Beagle Doxie.

Great photos, Terra! Lexi has clearly found a very good home! As for Beagle vs. Doxie, I see more of the Beagle in her. Either way, she's adorable!

Glad to see her happy and healthy!

Whoa, Terra, she is just so adorable--and the best part is she does look like she is feeling well.

P.S. Are you weighing her every week now? That will really help give you an idea how she is growing. My son used to often be astonished seeing ours and just saying, you know that she looks bigger than yesterday!

I've never believed in tying a dog outside, so our naughty pup spent a good bit more crate time than, perhaps, most others :-) She would behave perfectly when I put her on my lap and hand fed her treats like little apple slices or some cheese, then it was back to mayhem. She's a wonderful pup now, but what a little son of a gun when she was young.

Every one to two weeks we've been weighing her. A little over a week ago when she got the pneumonia, she was 6.7 pounds. One week later at her re-check, she was 9.54 pounds and she'll get weighed again this coming Monday when she goes for her next vaccination.

Lexi is never tied up outside. She usually is free roaming and sticks with me. I'm in the process of leash training her with her harness that matches her new collar, so she is on a leash at times. She minds us very well, that is until the neighbors let out their two dogs. Then she just wants to go over and play and turns a deaf ear to us, lol!

It's really not funny, but it is, haha!

But that only happens once in a great while. They and their dogs live between two houses, his and hers.

I've thought all along she looks more Beagle - there were a couple photos early that had a Doxie look but most look Beagley ( my own word but it words).

What she is - is adorable. She's also going to be a bit bigger than you expected, I bet....look at those paws.

She looks so healthy now, Terra! You're such a good puppy momma.

I don't care how big she gets, she'll always be my lovable little baby, haha!

I think she looks more Beagley too, however, sometimes she looks Doxie. Her body is longer than a beagle's and when you look down at her face from behind, forehead to snout, she looks totally Doxie then. But front on, Beagle all the way!

Either way, as you say, she's adorable!

HOW TO GIVE A CAT A PILL (in 15 easy steps)

    1) Pick cat up and cradle it in the crook of your left arm as if holding a baby. Position right forefinger & thumb on either side of cat’s mouth and gently apply pressure to cheeks while holding pill in right hand. As cat opens mouth pop pill into mouth. Allow cat to close mouth and swallow.

    2) Retrieve pill from floor and cat from behind sofa. Cradle cat in left arm and repeat process.

    3) Retrieve cat from bedroom, throw soggy pill away.

    4) Take new pill from foil wrap, cradle cat in left arm holding rear paws tightly with left hand. Force jaws open and push pill to back of mouth with right forefinger. Hold mouth shut for a count of ten.

    5) Retrieve pill from goldfish bowl and cat from top of wardrobe. Call spouse from yard.

    6) Kneel on floor with cat wedged firmly between knees, hold front and rear paws. Ignore low growls emitted by cat. Get spouse to hold head firmly with one hand while forcing wooden ruler into mouth. Drop pill down ruler and rub cat’s throat vigorously.

    7) Retrieve cat from curtain rail, get another pill from foil wrap. Make note to buy new ruler and repair curtains. Carefully sweep shattered figurines and vases from hearth and set to one side for gluing later.

    8) Wrap cat in large towel and get spouse to lie on cat with head just visible from below armpit. Put pill in end of drinking straw, force mouth open with pencil and blow down drinking straw.

    9) Check label to make sure pill not harmful to humans, drink 1 beer to take taste away. Apply Band-Aid to spouse’s forearm and remove blood from carpet with cold water and soap.

    10) Retrieve cat from neighbor’s shed. Get another pill. Open another beer. Place cat in cupboard and close door onto neck to leave head showing. Force mouth open with desert spoon. Flick pill down throat with rubber band.

    11) Fetch screwdriver from garage and put cupboard door back on hinges. Drink beer. Fetch bottle of scotch. Pour shot, drink. Apply cold compress to cheek and check records for date of last tetanus shot. Apply whiskey compress to cheek to disinfect. Toss back another shot. Throw tee shirt away and fetch new one from bedroom.

    12) Call fire department to retrieve the friggin’ cat from tree across the road. Apologize to neighbor who crashed into fence while swerving to avoid cat. Take last pill from foil-wrap.

    13) Tie the little x&*@#“s front paws to rear paws with twine and bind tightly to leg of dining room table, find heavy duty pruning gloves from shed. Push pill into mouth followed by large piece of steak. Be rough about it! Hold head vertically and pour 2 pints of water down throat to wash pill down.

    14) Consume remainder of Scotch. Get spouse to drive you to the emergency room, sit quietly while doctor stitches fingers and forearm and removes pill remnants from right eye. Call furniture shop on way home to order new table.

    15) Arrange for Humane Society to collect mutant cat from hell and call local pet shop to see if they have any puppies.

HOW TO GIVE A DOG A PILL:

    1) Wrap it in bacon.

Hahahaha! I laughed so hard reading that!

We used to have cats until I had an anaphylactic allergic reaction to cat dander. It took years to convince hubby I needed a puppy. He's always been more of a cat guy but now I think he's smitten and in puppy love too since we got Lexi about 3 1/2 weeks ago.

Someone sent that to my phone while I was out and about. I was reading it trying hard not to draw attention to myself and failing miserably.

It brought back some 'fond' memories and made a few battle scars tingle.

From the looks of Lexi, by the end of the month hubby wont even remember what a cat is.

I love that top pick. First time we've really seen her face. She's got good readable expression. She's sooooooo cute.

So here's some news. I'm moving to a new place (not a new area, just new digs - in Carson closer to work). My new roomie is a rockhound. There's one other woman that lives there that has two dogs. She's planning to move before too long and when her dogs are gone.............I can get a puppy! I haven't even met her yet and hope she doesn't let the door hit her in the **s on the way out. LMAO. Seriously though - it will be probably around 6 months.

Hey Terra, just wanted to make sure you knew I wasn't talking about you tying Lexi outside. Just kind of remembering when our pup was little--there was absolutely NO way you could let her off leash while outside, then or even now. Just saying I would never tie my little girl out back. Just had to buy her a new harness, she broke the previous one.

Looks like Lexi will be a pretty good girl with some training to stay even when there are other dogs running around.

We have a normal size fence in our yard, but we still can't let her off leash because she can, and would, just leap over it to go exploring or chase some of the wildlife around here and there's plenty of choices :-) to entice her.

My dogs the same. Walker is a coon hound. He'd be gone after the first squirrel enticed him away and Buddy usually stays in the yard, but can't be trusted to do that. Our neighbor shoots dogs on his property so it's not worth the risk. They are always on leash.

What an awful neighbor you have, that's really awfully hard-hearted.

Terra, can you take her to training? Our pup was for awhile, but she has her own mind and feels free to overrule whatever is on your agenda if it isn't also on hers. She decided right away when we brought her home that she was one of the family and that entitled her to make up her own mind. You have to see some of the antics to believe it.

Our previous neighbors used to have a doxie they took camping with them. One time they caught him playing matador with a real bull and hiding behind a tree every time the bull would charge.

She does listen better to me than my husband, but that isn't saying much. I do know that both Doxies and Beagles will go after game, but since you had one before, you probably already know that.

We can take her to training. We've actually discussed it but she is very smart. So we'll continue our training and see which is stronger, her intelligence or her stubbornness, lol!

Bill actually talked about fencing part of the yard, from the back of the house to where there is a wooden fence just behind the flower gardens and before the pole barn. We'll have to play it by ear.

              Oh yeah, Doxie's are fearless!

              Cute story...

Last night, I texted my oldest daughter this photo...

and told her to show the kids how big Lexi is getting.

She texted me back and said that Emmery said, "Oh she's even cuter than she was before. And she's very smart!"

She asked Emmery why she thought Lexi was smart and Emmery replied, "Look! She even learned how to smile!"

              Haha!

Oh, April, yeah I knew you weren't saying that at all. Just as you conversated, I did too.

I'm not sure whether it will always be that way as Lexi certainly has the Beagle nose. She's venturing closer and closer to the woods in the back of the property when she picks up a scent. Once that happens, it's getting more difficult to get her attention back.

I thought it would be better after last week. She got spooked and was a little scared to wander too far after that. But that has passed. She caught the scent of something and had her nose to the ground. I was right with her all the way, but then all of a sudden she kicked up a small deer that had bedded down behind the pole barn. It scared the crap out of her and startled me too.

After that, whenever she caught scent of a deer or heard twigs cracking in the woods, she'd start whining and come running to either Bill or me. But like I said, that's past. Her curiosity just gets the best of her.

She's getting better with her leash training, so we're almost there. Of course she loves to go fetch the Frisbee and bring it back, so I just have to watch her closely for now. I can tell when she scents something and can get to her before she starts hunting down the source.

I guess only time will tell whether she'll need to be on the leash most of the time.
