E-BOOK in FUTURE - What Will It Look Like?

Hello Fellow Warriors,

Just like tape replaced record and cd replaced tape and digital replaced cd as far as music is concerned what is the future of the E-Book? Is it the Audio version? Video version? But those are essentially different products with a different delivery and even a different feel and take longer to product I would think.

I'm just thinking outside the box. Maybe the future e-book is more about clickable features and linking than it is about the delivery method (downloadable) or cosmetics.

What are you thoughts warriors?

Appreciate your input.

    Hello Fellow Warriors,

I would have thought this would have been a more interesting topic but it's got no replies so far.

Possibly the future eBook will be more to do with copyright protection and distribution?

Do you suppose there will ever be a "J.K. Rowling" (Harry Potter Franchise) of eBooks?

I read an article about this young girl Amanda Hocking who needed to raise some money so she published her novel on Kindle and sold 1,500,000 copies and made $2,500,000 at the time the article was written so it's probably a lot more now as that was 3.5 years ago.

Is fiction really that popular? Do people read eBooks (non-fiction) about life situations like they do fiction or is it the fiction that allows them to 'escape'?

    Thanks J

  • The future of ebook will be a "licensed" chip you will have to take and it will read and have approved ebooks you can buy with your digital cash and you can instantly "read" via your implanted chip. You have a implanted lens that communicates with this chip so you can see any diagrams etc and overlays.

  • All media (audio / video / text ) will be combined into one virtual display,
which you will be able to read. listen and watch through your visor glasses.

Actually, mine was serious. There's no reason to continue reading just written material in what will become an ancient PDF or kindle format, or even listening to an audio book only, when you can have all media combined into an optional 3D experience, while giving you the option to read text only by turning off the other media.

Things change slowly, but they will.

Law offices, doctor offices, etc still send faxes, why, is beyond me.
        But that's another topic.

Thanks stoltingmediagroup. Well goes to show you here I am the guy asking the question and thinking outside the box and I didn't think you where being serious lol. I think the visor glasses comment threw me off. Some kind of hologram perhaps? Sounds fascinating did you read about this somewhere or is it just from your own creative thoughts? I noticed that image of the visor glasses is that from some article?

Appreciate it. My apologies for discounting it at first.

  • Currently available technology and what's available on the market are two different things.

Have you seen this yet from Microsoft?

This will make you think differently about the future of how we work, read, listen, watch, etc.

Your right about the future of eBooks. It's just a matter of when but the format will be along these lines.

Yeah well, years from now someone will resurrect this thread, and we'll be laughing at how we were typing this on a keyboard.

May not even need to wait two generations. Here's a series of AT&T commercials from '93, i.e., one generation. Just about every prediction (if not all) is now commonly available. About the biggest "miss" is that AT&T wasn't necessarily the dominant player in each of these various developments.

Interesting how most of them did become pretty standard today. If not obsolete already.

I like the last one at: 3:17 where the PC owner has a virtual assistant (search Dog)
            who lives in the PC.

            ----------------------------------------
            PC OWNER: "Good Morning!"

PC DOG: "....the reference material I've gathered for your meeting,
and I'm still working on those Playoff Tickets"

            PC OWNER: "Good boy!"
            ----------------------------------------

Sounds a tad strange saying "Good Boy" to my computer after if finds something online, but I guess we have become used to stranger things over the years.

You know, there is always a distinction between things. From books to ebooks; letters to emails.
The future of ebook is actually a combination of audio, visual and text altogether. But in an optional way, based on user's preference.

I would say this video answers your question!

Don't know about 5 years though, we will probably have this by 2025 - 2030.

A newspaper that is interactive, and you can download something and throw it into it, seriously cool; I was trying to find the Minority Report, man reading the paper, but this is far cooler!

So, a hardback e-book, whereby you can download a novel, etc online and throw it into the book, which reads like a real book.

With the only exception that apart from Harry Potter images, an e-book could probably hold a few hundred books, etc.

Get sick of Harry Potter, and switch to How to Make Donuts!

I'm getting more and more involved in audio book production, and it's certainly one way that authors can differentiate themselves from the crowd, precisely because it takes more effort to produce. Thus, the audio book titles become larger fish in a smaller pond.

I love audio books, I can lay on my couch and listen to them, plus I can get through a whole book in an evening compared to several days of reading.

I think this is such a ridiculously obvious question! Frankly, given how things are, I feel my predictions HERE might come true, even though they are mostly overkill, etc....

JK ROWLING? FORGET IT! ******THAT****** technology is HERE, and some are trying to make it COMMERCIAL! They have been fr about a DECADE, though the idea is MANY decades old, and uses mid 20th century and earlier technology.

So what do I see could happen? JK rowling, but 3D, interactive, and with features like references, games, etc.... AGAIN, mostly using 20th century technology.

STILL, people may TIRE of papers, especially if it is 3D. How about putting the technology in a watch? It could use certain technology that has been used since the late 20th century to make a pinhole projector act like reality and have super fast and flexible I/O.
