Congratulations. That's a meaningful accomplishment. Keep in mind that what you learned in school will probably be the least important things you will need to be successful in life. Just a little tip from a high school dropout. :-)

Congratulations! My sister went down that road, and she has always had good options in front of her because of it.

I would agree wholeheartedly with this statement, except when it comes to the sciences.

Embrace the scientific method in everything you do in life (except when it comes to women, maybe) and you'll be several steps ahead of the rest of us other schmucks.

Yep. Understanding women is much more like interpreting a poem written in Sanskrit. You have to learn an entire dead language before you can even attempt to understand.

Raising a child is akin to knowing you're getting fired in 18 years and having to train your replacement without actively sabotaging them.

And the reason understanding women is like a dead language, is that by the time you figure it out...you're dead.

Absolute truth. School teaches you basic skills and knowledge to be employable. But highly successful people are not employees. Life outside of schools teaches more valuable skills and knowledge.

        Nonetheless, congratulations on your graduation!

It's great that we now have someone here who is remotely qualified to answer pressing medical questions, like what are the long term effects of eating African and Indian elephant dung and dounuts.

Seems like a legitimate diet to me, I approve for use!

Yeah, I was interested in the effects of eating donuts. I knew you were interested in the effects of elephant dung.....or as you like to call it, organic ice cream.

Well, it's highly scientifically proven that donuts are health food. I suggest everyone include them in their diet at least twice a week.

Reading some of these stupid "Do i need a degree or can promoting $5 eBooks make me rich" threads - It's refreshing to see that some people still know the value of a degree/diploma....

Hey Congratulations. Feels good to have it over, doesn't it? Ya know - when I graduated I swore I would never step foot in another school. By the time I was 50 all I wanted to do is go back (although I know damned well the social life would not be the same, LOL).

You really did pick a good field for monetary interests. More importantly -- science never becomes boring. Real research doesn't always give you the conclusions you want to see - but you will never be bored. I call that a 100% win/win situation. Ya did good.

        Congratulations Lee!

This is the news I've been waiting for ever since we were discussing medical marijuana and you told me you were in University and what you were studying.

You've chosen a noble field and I commend you!

Now, here are some words of wisdom...

Although this was originally for the graduating class of 1997, the advice still is true today. Enjoy!

Out here the terminology is "soul food". Self explanatory, I would say.

Congrats Butters and all the best. I graduated from the UK with a medical degree and M.Sc and so I am quite aware of the environment for research. I would think carefully before deciding to embark on a Ph.D. Research scientists have just about the lowest paid and insecure and toughest jobs around. I know many people with Ph.D. who are surviving on 2 year research grants that may not be renewable. You only get job security if you get a tenure as a university scientist. You will get much higher pay in the private sector but the jobs aren't that secure either. As a result, many end up doing jobs that are completely unrelated to what they graduated in.

The idea for now is to get into a lab, become HCPC registered and that will open up my chance for much more jobs... Gain some experience in the NHS and then move on privately but I'll take any experience I can get right now

Think yourself lucky you didn't get born in a 3rd world country, or you'd know how that gets tied to schooling and the future. Life as a big village.

But, good luck to you. May you do the best that can be demanded by a man.
