Have you ever been there? Where everything you do, somehow goes down in the gutter?

Nothing is going right in your life. Not one win to show. When you think you could use a little bit of luck.

How did you get out of it? Just wondering..

Sumit.

I just keep zigging and zagging. Just keep on moving. Persistence and hard work create their own luck.

Of course, you have to do some reflecting to determine if you're just hitting a bad streak or are deliberately sabotaging yourself.

Been there - done that...and more than once.

What you want to do is go off into a corner and scream - throw up your hands - give up - etc

You accept that you can't always control what happens to you but you can control how you react. It's also a good time to find out what you're made of.

The only time in my life when I've used a "mantra" was a very long bad period I went through. I told myself "shit is fertilizer - grow out of it". Sounds stupid now - but it worked when I needed it.

Also helps to remember everyone has bad times - some people live their entire life in crisis. Keeping that in mind makes your problems look a bit more manageable.

After I went through my divorce, the next year seemed like I couldn't win.

Every time I'd feel good about something, a curve ball would come in from left field and knock me back down into depression.

It took a while to get out of it, but like Dan said, keep shucking and jiving and it will work out.

I likened it to bashing my head against a concrete wall. Even though my head was already bloody from doing it, the wall was still standing, so I kept bashing until it broke down.

I read something that life is like a bow & arrow. You've gotta be pulled back to be propelled forward.

    </cheese>

I'm doing better now mentally than I have in the last 30 years, and the financial future looks brighter than I could have dreamed possible.

Stay at it. One thing that really helped me was making a list of every problem I had in my life. It was a big one. I started knocking out every single issue one by one, systematically.

      I like the bow/arrow analogy.

Sometimes, too, you need to be too stubborn to give in. Eventually it gets better.

I often feel this way when I'm playing on the Xbox with my daughter. To add insult to injury - because she knows this fact - she'll often play with one eye closed. Talk about kicking a guy when he's down.

    Sumit.
I really enjoy hearing people's life stories. Not just IMers but most people's stories. One thing I have noticed is that everyone goes through trials and tribulations. I have come to believe that life is always about balances and in order for a person to gain success they must first know failure.

Something that helped me was a quote by Les Brown. "You have to fail your way to success." Forget what everyone tells you. Forget about the issues glaring you in the face and PUSH ON.

You will ultimately reach a point where you look back at this moment and laugh. Now, here is a bit of game for you. How can you flip your negative situation into a positive? What little nugget of gold can you take from all of this? There is a positive that can be taken from your situation. Find that and you will have an easier time dealing with your situation.

    Hope this helps

      Doesn't everyone's? LOL!

When I've gone through disappointing streaks in the past, I just thought of myself as an apple tree that needed a good, cold, hard winter in order to bear the sweetest fruit in the spring and summer seasons.

At other times I thought of myself as a piece of art in progress and realized that strong lasting art sculptures are not created with toothpicks and tweezers, but out of hammers and chisels and determined that I was strong enough to take it and would be a valuable masterpiece when the sculpture was completed.

Those always have worked for me.

Ah, gee, Sumit - if you only knew. I was just getting stabilized and just got kicked in the face and knocked down............again.

What I do? I have a screaming hissy fit where I just go somewhere and scream obscenities about everything and anything. Then I take some me time to get away from it. For me that is going out and hunting some great agates or crystals.

Then I go home, get a good night's sleep, wake up slow and drink a couple of cups of coffee and figure out my next move - then I start working on making that move.

    Sumit,

If you feel comfortable doing it - tell us a little about why you're currently feeling this way. Trust me, buddy, not a single one of us has it easy all of the time. Often the best way to help yourself is by asking for help from others. It looks like most of the folks above could give you a lot of helpful advice if you want it. Remember this, too - tomorrow is another day. You never know what's around the corner.

Decades ago, I had a few low points. But it was always my fault. Stupid choices, laziness, moronic use of my time....all my fault.

Sometimes friends helped me out, sometimes I crawled out of the hole myself.

Eventually, it dawned on me that I was the one causing my troubles, and I could change what I was doing.

Yes, but it gets better, eventually. Having friends to listen and provide a shoulder helps a lot. I think of life as going along a road - sometimes there are bumps in the road that you have to get over. Sometimes they're mountains, but you just have to keep going until you get to the other side.
