Anyone Seen The Very Annoying UK TripAdvisor Advert?

I don't watch TV or take any notice of what's on it. My partner watches it though, and this morning an advert promoting the website TripAdvisor (UK TV) came on.

My ears are used to ignoring the TV, but the advert had this annoying voice repeatedly saying "book" at a much higher volume than the rest of the advert. It was like a poorly recorded sound bite.

My initial reaction was "ouch! that is painful on my ears". But it made me look at the TV and take note of what was going on. I can see this was the advertisers intention.

Are there any statistics on how well this sort of marketing does? Is there a name for this sort of marketing?

If you're in the UK, I seen it on the ITV channel about hour ago. If I can record it next time I will.

Yes. The very annoying advert, with the dog barking 'book, book, book'

Yes that's the one. Just heard it again, and thought I'd check back on the post.

      Probably this one...

Yes, they intentionally max out the treble, since they cannot increase the volume, we have far more annoying ad's than this one, in AU!

The one with the stupid, laughing evil kid, is at the top of the list in AU, especially when they play the s*** out of it!

Adding to that is the reluctance of tv manufacturers to make a decent mute button!

My Mother watches a lot of tv, and her Sony remote for her smart LCD tv, is so small and warn out, she basically has to stab the button in order to press it, without getting a sore finger, grrrr!

So l went to a tv repairer, bought an earlier Sony remote that should be compatible with the current one, and an old remote rubber pad, and did some surgery.

Basically got rid of the tiny mute button, (the earlier remote mute button was actually worse) by drilling a bigger hole and cut the biggest rubber pad button for it.

Works like a dream and no more sore finger. Certainly makes Mothers Day a bit more special!

And cuts down on stupid life insurance or funeral ad's, (she watches a lot of murder mystery's, (or try's to, they are repeating too much).

Universal remotes aren't much better with clumsy mute buttons in the middle of others, etc.

It is easy enough to do, but you might need to pray the remote open, since these days they tend to be snap type assembly, (no screws) probably to stop smart a*** like me to get around there BS, mmmmmaaaaaagggg!

But l have to admit that virtually all of my viewing is on my Laptop!

I don't watch many commercials (we record and fast forward through them) but the ONE that drives me nuts is

        HomeAdvisor.com

At the end of their commercial they have a doorbell ringing - and for some reason our dogs think THAT chime is real and run barking to the door...every time.

Ha! That would be clever to use something like that in dog commercials. At the cost of irritating the world though.
