Simple/Brilliant Solution to all the Forum's Woes

I was reading the most recent "How did you make your first $100" thread and thought Cheryl's response was right in line.

Then some people came along and happily answered the question. The OP came back and said that researching this question and previous threads was not on his to do list.

So I had this flash of intelligence (rare for me). Why do some people happily answer these questions day after day after day and never complain? They never put their self appointed moderator sitting on his or her high horse hat on. They never complain. They never report. They never send messages to Daniel about this violation or that violation.

The answer is because it's in their self interest to answer the questions and not to report anything. They are relaxed compared to some of us whose blood pressure threatens to explode our head every time we visit.

So the answer to stop all the bitching (that apparently isn't heard in Australia anyway)? Join them.

Instead of writing reports let's start answering questions. Instead of no sigs let's find something - even a decent PLR product - and start selling it through our sig. Instead of saying to search, welcome the exposure of your new sig file.

You say you have no time? You already spend a lot of time in an endless quest (apparently one sided) to improve the forum. So why not be able to relax with the possibility of making a buck or two due to your "senior" status.

You say you have no website? Get a free one or a subdomain or whatever you need to do. Again, it won't take much time to get something set up.

You say you have no interest in selling these sorts of things? But you do have interest in continuing running in circles on your own little hamster wheel while you wait and pray that the people that own the place will get as interested as you are?

It would be a change for many of us as far as changing our mindset. Speaking of mindset, we'd need to lay off anything remotely suggesting that someone will fail. They aren't listening to anything we say anyway - we are constantly being called names (my recent favorite for me was "pretentious prick") and ignored. So why worry about them? Sell to them instead through happily posting with our new sig intact.

Seriously I'm half serious. My mom shared with me a story from a movie (forget which one) that has stuck with me. A couple were always fighting about how he dealt with the toothpaste tube. This caused all kinds of fights and it was an endless source of unhappiness. Finally someone came along and suggested that the lady buy her own toothpaste tube. The problem was instantly solved - no more fights and a lot more happiness. So if our current efforts aren't making any progress, why not try a different way?

    Very nice post, but not something that I would ever consider. It sounds to me as if you are surrendering out of weariness. I simply don't see where taking such a stance would benefit the forum in any way, other than making it appear that the insanity has lessened because we have convinced everyone to just start 'taking their meds.'

    Since you are correct about people not wanting to take any advice, I have decided to simply stop giving it, along with posts that I would consider more along the lines of attempting to be a 'voice of reason.'

    Acquiescing to a concept of not warning people of the pitfalls of the 'pie-in-the-sky,' 'just believe-in-yourself-and-you-will-achieve-riches' crowd should be untenable to anyone over the age of 25, and and IQ over 75.

    Ultimately your course of action will only hasten the inevitable demise of this forum for serious professionals, including those that want to offer realistic hope through the dissemination of quality information based on decades of trial and error.

    Perhaps if I were 25 I could adapt to your proposal. Being almost 70 and having built a very successful career resulting in a very comfortable lifestyle, I have come to the conclusion that it makes no sense to waste my breath on people that are clueless and obviously want to stay that way. When I was young, I never wanted to listen to anyone, either. I get that. That worked for me as I always look for a different and hopefully better way to accomplish any goal. Not everyone has that mindset. If one doesn't and if you come looking for guidance - you should accept what is offered and show a modicum of appreciation for someone taking the time to at least attempt to assist you in your quest for success.

    I've got mine - through hard work, struggle, countless mistakes, many failures and the resulting sleepless nights, as well as taking some advice from a few successful people along the way.

    If people want to believe nothing more than, 'build a list, rinse and repeat, scale up - all at no cost by the way and then believe in yourself and you will make it,' I have nothing to offer them except my best wishes.

    My best wishes and $2 will get them a good cup of coffee, almost anywhere in the world. I hope they enjoy the coffee, because it will likely be the high point of their day, regardless of how much they believe that today is the day that their life will change forever, simply because they believe it.

    I have sooo lost interest in any conversation here except for light conversation in Off Topic. They destroyed the section I advertise in and there has been no monetary incentive to wade through the trash upstairs to try to make a dime by answering barely intelligible questions from lazy people who wouldn't do the work involved anyway.

    • Because those are the only questions they can answer and sound like they know something! Anyone can sit around and dream of what fancy car he wants - or how big his house will be - or how he will spend his day when he earns $50k/wk in his Ralph Lauren boxers.

      But in most of those threads now - there are paid posters - people posting with multiple accounts, etc. Even when Frank and I jump in to chew them out - we're probably arguing with a 15 yr old in an eastern country.

      If I tried to seriously post an answer in those threads, I'd die of a brain fart. I have to agree with Suzanna - it's rapidly reaching the point of 'not worth it'. That's too bad because along with all the posers and bots and pure idiots looking for attention are a few good people who want to make this stuff work.

  • Like I said - half serious and half extra pain meds and not thinking straight. It does get tiresome and I wonder why I even come here at all anymore.

    I've actually got something I'm almost finished with that I was debating about putting in my signature. Then I started to question myself.

    Would some people, even the "regulars" blast every post I made because I had a sig now?
    Would I even want, no matter how much they paid, half of the posters here? Can you imagine the support tickets and hassle if they act the same way as they do here?
    Would I answer a lot more posts just because of my sig and become just like "them"?

    I've also debated creating my own forum. It seems that, even with all the issues, there is something good that could come out of all this but I think it's impossible with the current owners. They sent out an ad the other day touting the 950,000 users that people could advertise too. I think that makes it clear that that is their only goal - the numbers. That's why they haven't published any posting rules or helped much in that area - they want the users and they want the posts. Of course, the great majority of those 950,000 haven't been here in years because they failed or were banned or whatever. But still that's a big list to work with. The key would be quality from the get go and then work on the quantity once the foundation was laid. But the WF used to be quality until it became a marketplace. So you'd have to have a balance from the beginning.

    On second thought - I think it's all just the pain meds and as Frank says "weariness".

    • Mark - Just checked and nothing done about the people who are "new" members who began posting yesterday. Sorry, but I don't believe four people with similar sounding names joined on a particular day last August - and began posting (25 posts or so each) yesterday.

      Will be interesting to see what sigs appear for these four "members" going forward.

      At least those four are (so far) not obnoxious and rude like some of the more recent members here. But they aren't worth answering, either. I did report the names - but no response.

    Sounds like a reasonable plan but 950,000 freebie seekers being called members is what you're marketing to and it just simply is no longer worth the effort or the cost of advertising to them.
