Kenny "The Snake" Stabler best know as a QB for the national champions Alabama and also for the Super Bowl Champs The Raiders of 1976, passed away from colon cancer. I believe he was 69.

He was one of the few QBs who won a national title at the college and pro level.

A rare left handed QB who threw a pretty and what seemed like a soft pass will forever be remembered for the "Holy Roller" play that forced the NFL to change its rules regarding fumbles that go forward. Now offensive teams can not fumble the ball forward inside of 4 minutes to go in a half.

Kenny Stabler was the fastest QB to win 100 games as a starting quarterback, having done so in 150 games, which bettered Johnny Unitas' previous mark of 153 games. Since then, only Terry Bradshaw in 147 games, Joe Montana in 139 games and Tom Brady in 131 games have reached 100 wins more quickly.

Many football fans are wondering why Kenny isn't in the NFL Hall Of Fame.

As far as he was concerned, his Raider teams never lost, they simply ran out of clock.

Here's that famous play which is demonstrative of his willingness to do whatever it takes to pull out the victory....

Peace be on you and thanks for the thrills Kenny.

I'll see you in gridiron heaven.

I was sad to hear this. I was a big Raider fan back then and Stabler was a terrific QB. I didn't realize he was that old but then again I'm just a dozen years behind him.
