Did your Windows 10 install go well?

This is for those that took the plunge..

I said to myself as a tech-savy hopeful, “no way I am waiting till the bugs are sorted"

My lady suggested I don't, she said it will blow up your computer, not to mention the house, you will have no computer equipment--and hence no living. One day you will be begging in the streets and some guy will ask you how you ended up on the streets, and you will answer--"Windows 10?"--the guy will just walk away muttering "idiot, he made his own stupid choices!"

I started to install it. My lady was in the next room, I shouted loudly, “aghhhh!--the computer is on fire darling”--she actually ran in with the fire extinguisher. I won't mention the names she called me.

Seriously, I have to say, this is the best Windows OS I have ever used. My computer has never been faster, even Google Chrome is faster. I actually like it, and don't care if I have to agree to them seeing my birthmarks before I download apps. I have nothing to hide, although I regard my underwear as private, but even saying that my Mum always told me to wear clean underwear in case I was involved in an accident. I am covered..

I am still waiting on some bug appearing, perhaps some hackers have put a time delay in it before it blows up, but at least I will have had the sheer pleasure of knowing Windows 10 and Cortana for just a little time..smiles

I installed mine over Win 8.1, and no I don't work for Microsoft.

My previous apps and devices work fine. My main worry was my Blue-Yeti mic and Camtasia Studio for example, all working fine. In fact the sound appears better and richer.

Perhaps I was lucky. I did prepare my computer to the best I could, checked out compatibility with programs etc

What is your experience if you installed it?

No real problems on a laptop and PC except for a 2006 cheap webcam which is long overdue for replacement anyway. Best experience yet.

One problem I had was that my screensaver setting would disappear with every restart of the computer. I just set the screen to shut off after 10 minutes instead. I also had the "working on it" message for a couple hours when trying to install Windows 10 - I gave up. I ended up using Windows Update in the control panel & clicking check for updates & it installed there. So far all my programs work just fine. I haven't explored all the new features but I did like not having to pay for the upgrade (had Windows 7.

Mine did but it's a secondary computer so I wasn't really worried if it crapped out. Updated from Windows 7 and it's a nice update. Edge is a quick browser I like it.

Okay, tech-moron question here. Will updating erase all my documents and pictures? Do I need to put them on a disk before I upgrade?

The upgrade should not erase your docs and pics.

The safest answer is yes. Anytime you do a major upgrade you should make sure the must have" stuff is safely stored somewhere.

For sure the safest way to play is "must have" stuff should be backed up somewhere at all times (already backed up)... I usually keep 3 copies or more of my most important stuff. Right now I have 5 external drives and 900+ DVDs and CDs of backup...and some in the cloud and some on my server.

        Cheers

    I can't install it all.

In the notification tray, there's an icon. When I click that a window comes up saying that Win10 has been downloaded and ready to install.

I click on the link that says "OK, let's continue" and after about 10 seconds, the window shuts down and that's it.

I've tried it about 17 times now and the same thing happens every time.

So that's it. My experience so far is that this is the worst version of Windows to date. At least all the other versions have installed first time, every time.

I will wait til l go buy a new Laptop, don't want to lose some key software and have to cough up for a new one?

The W10 ad online is really dumb, what does a group of baby's and kids have to do with an Operating System?

We get about 90% children and 10% actually seeing the OS, and what it can do, l guess!

I won't buy this based on a group of snotty nosed baby's, forget it!

If an adult shows how good it is, then l will take more notice!

A group of 20+ execs, (with baby's) must have brainstormed that one?

More money than brains, l guess?

Well, we can't discuss politics here, but the IQ relationships is dubious!

No, doubt Microsoft is pushing this towards parents; it would explain the creach with a brief glimpse of the actual product.

Unless you can use this to help teach your kid to fish?

Any luck we can throw some champagne all over our computers with W10 and teach our Laptops how to sing?

          Works in the movies?

Just as long as it isn't called "Genisys", a soon-to-be-unveiled global operating system?

I know this is probably not what you and the other reply about babies meant--some folks do confuse youth with IQ levels and maturity.

It is interesting to me that many of the worlds biggest Internet Marketers are children and teenagers.

            How are we doing?..smiles

Windows 10 does sing songs, just say to any Win 10 computer " Hey Cortana, sing me a song!"

My computer just gave me a lovely rendering of "You are my sunshine, my only sunshine.."

And yes, for children, just say "Hey Cortana, sing me a Lullaby" Cortana just sang-- "Hush-a-bye, don't you cry, go to sleep my little baby. When you wake, you'll have cake, and all the pretty little horses"

No, the only W10 l have messed around with, didn't sing, back, but l did tell it go to hell a few times, and thankfully it didn't talk back.

But that was the online site not the OS, although the OS was a bit Rubiks cube to navigate?

Although if l dragged it out and hung it from the nearest window it might start saying, "Stop Dav, don't Dave"?

My name isn't Dave, he, he!

I upgraded and the first couple of weeks was a bit rough. For some reason, my fan was always going full blast and my surfing was really bad with Chrome. But then last night, I got an update, and now everything is working the way it is supposed to. My internal cam was working initially, then quit all of a sudden, so I had to go buy an external unit. I like the black bar along the bottom with the white icons. Reminds me of KDE on Linux.

Yes, I experienced a major update on my PC last night. Surfing was generally ok with Chrome before that though. Should all get smoother as time and updates go on.

One thing about 10, files and software take a little longer to open, More in a way of not showing progress (like a splash screen showing up on software) Just a slight delay and boom, it's there. Interesting difference I noticed though.

My 2006 (logitech) cam works with the audio for Cortana but not in native Windows apps, looks like a new one required.
