Just curious..Which room in your house gives you more focus and do most of your online work from? Home office, kitchen table, livingroom ect..

For me it's the bedroom room while sitting on the side of the bed..For some reason I get more focused (even if the tv on), thoughts are clearer and more of my creative juices flows.. I know everyone is different so which room does that for you?

I couldn't work in the bedroom. It would interfere with my sleep patterns.

I work in the living room with my PC in the center of the room against the wall. I have two windows to each side of me, so I feel "centered" even if my home office is dirty.

Working from home is filled with distractions. Especially if you have pets. I had a home office for years and the interruptions were constant. The tax write off is nice but a business office leads to greater productivity. Depending on your area, office space could be a lot more affordable than you think.

Starts at around $250 all inclusive in my town. The increased revenue from greater focus more than covers that plus the difference in the home business tax break.

I have a spare room in my house that I converted into an office. Using sound dampening panels to help my audio recording quality it's nearly sound proof as well. I agree that working from home there are many distractions, I try and stick to my daily schedule as much as possible. Admittedly, I recently removed a small sofa and TV from my office because it was always too tempting to see what's on t.v. lol

I'm working in my living room.

I had a real office, years ago, but it was rather a waste of time than anything else

I have an home office, but I find myself working in the living room. I often think that this could be because of a small 2 bedroom apartment I lived in for 17 years. The office was in the living room-dining room.

Today I live in a 2 story 7 bedroom home and I still find myself in the living room.

Yes, me too, virtually any room!

Although on stinking hot days, l head down to the nearest shopping centre, so a coffee shop becomes my office!

For now, I am working from my kitchen table as I live in an efficiency. However, once I move in a few months, I will get a 2 bedroom home and turn of the bedrooms into an office. I need a great place where I can be away from my wife, as wee as recording videos.

I can and do work from pretty much every room in my house (apart from the bathroom). Best place is upstairs during the day, out of the way of my partner. I also tend to work late at night, so best place for that is on my own in the living room (with the TV off!). Depends on your circumstances and preferences of course. I've the advantage of no kids or dogs at home, just a couple of cats and a partner who gets out of the house far more than I do. Lots of P&Q!

Best place for me when in London is the loft conversion on top of the house. Never get disturbed there.

When in Goa India, it's always the large balcony overlooking Baga beach with the sea, sand, sun and palm trees. Productivity just hits the roof there whilst enjoying the days

PC setup in a spare room that has a fold out sofa bed for occasional visitors. Hardly ever been used for that though. Pets are cats so not really much of a distraction. Never would dream of using a laptop for serious productivity.

  • Tend to do most of my better stuff on horseback.

Guy I know made me a harness for my laptop so I can have it by my side as I gallop along. Left hand for reins, right hand for all the business. Also got a fold out shelf for writing longhand and a microphone rig on the saddle.

Most days I go for a spin and knock off a few emails while I throw Shirley (my horse) over a few fences. Neighbors have gotten used to me romping through their gardens writing sales ads and shit.

Worst part is when it snows or the weather gets too wet to vault over folks' lawns. That's when I have to bring Shirlo inside and work sans leap. She's pretty cool at standing for long periods, and as long as she gets a run out to poop it's almost like we're vaulting and jumping.

Best part is, I figured the whole scheme back when I was a kid. Always knew I'd own a horse, always knew I'd be a writer, always hit on thinking up goofy schemes. So I made a kinda desk-cum-strap-cum-rucksack thing when I was in high school. Fitted real nice on my dog, Ellie, and cos I was way smaller then it worked out real good for homework and stuff, even the math. Just used to bound around in the yard, and would never have romped through folks' gardens because Mom got crazy about that kinda stuff. Plus, with Ellie being a Peke and all, jumping was kinda no-no.

    Am I still dreaming?

    Sure. You bet.

When I hit the big leagues as a writer I figure on hiring staff — receptionist, secretary, hairdo girl — and no way is Shirley gonna notch up any kinda feelgood factor carrying those guys around.

So I figure maybe an elephant or a whale. An elephant would work with one of those India Rajah seats, and if the whale were plunged into some kinda wheeled tank, like mebbe a converted truck or something, then I could make with the same deal I have now with the Shirlster, only do some proper two-handed typing.

It's maybe a pipe dream, but like the guys over at the Mind Warriors Neurotwango Forum say, you gotta think positive and dream big dreams or you just end up nowhere.

So, whaddya say? Should I go for the whale? Gotta be better than a plain old desk or some weirdo armchair, and Shirley's legs ain't gonna be full of energy forever. If those guys in London can have a swanky swimming pool in the sky, I can have me a whale in a truck.

Tellya, I love this forum. It's like inspiration on a stick.

We added on an office to our house, second floor, windows all along the walls on three sides, fabulous views. I live in canyon country in western Colorado, so I look out on pinyon juniper forest and red rock canyon walls. I have computer set up with two computers, three monitors, corner desk - I do everything from here.

I share the dining room with my desk. I can also go outside and sit on the porch or any other place or biz with wifi. It has either been very rainy/storming here or too hot to sit outside this entire spring and summer.

Totally depends on what I'm doing. I make stuff and that I hate doing in the bedroom - in fact when it's warm out I like to do that outside. In colder weather at the kitchen table where the lighting is the best. If I'm working online I like being in my bedroom because I have roomies. If I were alone I'd probably just set up shop in the living room.

Yes, but do you get any work done?

I mean watching eagles go after tourists small dogs can become all consuming?

Actually, I do get work done. I am quite focused and have great attention span and determination and love what I do.

Then, when I take a break and sit back, the view cannot be beat.

Well, if a huge storm is on its way down the canyon, about to hit our house, I must say, it does distract me.

I see coyotes, foxes, wild turkeys, deer, hawks, ravens, jays, lots of small birds, chipmonks, rabbits - of course only at break time

I used to have a dining room - until I realised I never had anyone over for dinner.

So, I turned it into a study/work room. I've got books lining one wall, a comfy chair for reading, a table in the corner for my cosplay work and my computer station in another corner for my online work. Much better than a dining room!

Home office. I don't do anything else in there except run my business. I don't do any business in any other part of the house. I walk in the office to work so I never lose focus once I am in there. When I leave the room I leave all my business work behind. That is what works best for me but I know other people are just as productive with very different methods and locations.
