I suppose the first one is

1. If you've never made any money.

One thing I've never done is made a clickbank sale and I kinda find that strange  . I've done some Amazon and other affiliate networks but not even 1 clickbank.

Is there anything you feel like you need to do at least once ?

It's funny how you mention you've never made a clickbank sale. I seem to read that alot on different forums. I wonder why Clickbank products are harder to sell than others (Although I think their "new" feature with adsense-like advertising will make easier sales for many).

To your question, I need to think...

You're not an internet marketer if ...... you don't work 15 hours a day, dream about your stats, cry with happiness when you get a new product idea, forget to eat because you're arranging a JV and cry even more when you check your earnings ...

I've never done CPA but would like to try it sometime when I am not busy doing all of the above!

Just because you sell an ebook, or sales a junk clickbank product, or slap up a MRR website that you got from a JV event for free, or even install a blog with IM products on it - does not make you a marketer....

Personally I think the word "Internet Marketer" is too freely used by many wannabee self proclaimed people...

    Just my opinion though...

I totally agree with you James.

To be an Internet Marketer, you must first market on the Internet (duh).

You're not an internet marketer if you don't take action.. That;s the bottom line.

You're also not an internet marketer if the one thing that you are truly chasing isn't conversion.

IMHO that's already what an internet marketer should do..

      Sell Ebooks
      Sell Clickbank
      Put up an MRR
      Join Free JV events
      JV tie ups
      Install blog with IM products..

James you've already given a complete business model. This are among the things that Internet marketers should do..

There were only a few things left out like creating a list, etc. etc.

      Best wishes..

Point is that DOES NOT make you a internet marketer no more than free website design software makes you a designer..... There are certain skills one must have and not everyone is able to learn those skills.

I am sorry your are NOT a internet marketer just because you sell some junk ebook.... This makes you a "seller" but nothng more.

Just because you painted your house does not mean you are a professional painter
Just because you baked cookies for girl scouts does not make you a professional baker
Just because you wash your cloths all by yourself does not make you a expert dry-cleaner

Oh My! This list could go on and on but you should get the idea... People assume labels far too easy when the fact is many are not what they claim...

When I started affiliate marketing, I was promoting a $40-commission clickbank product. Someone went through my id and purchased some smaller product (that I hadn't promoted at all) and I receive around $4 as a commission.

That was my first commission from clickbank, and last.

    Sorry for being off-topic.

I agree with James, the term 'internet marketer' is thrown around to easily. Most people just wanna make a quick buck they don't really like 'marketing' . The only way you will survive and enjoy longevity in this game is if you enjoy marketing or have a product that you have a passion for in which you can learn about marketing and do it for your product.

I have created my own products for years ... Matter fact if any of you can remember that "Free To Sell" that was first introduced by Tom Hue. The cgi search engine script in it was one that I coded myself. (wow cgi scripts.. that was a long time ago). As many know I also have created many IM products that have been successful...

I have been in this game for years and still I do not call myself a "Internet Marketer" I consider myself a website developer because that is what I have done for 15+ years. Yes I have created products at the same time but I personally think that title is earned, I mean I am no Allen Says ... lol

It is the very same thing in many industries... Many call themselves a coder because they can slap free open source code together or someone calls themselves a designer because they have free software to slap sites together... Just because you can do this does not make you a coder or a designer.

This is something that is earned from years of working your business. Learning, making mistakes, building a true online business that supports your family, knowing how to take "nothing" and build it into "something" with nothing to start, if you know what I mean....

You're not and Internet Marketer if you have never built a "fake blog." (lol!)

No seriously, if you have never felt passionate about it, then you are not an Internet Marketer. You have to have a passion for this business because failure is not an option when you are doing something you are passionate about or love doing.

I made up my mind I was going to succeed if it kills me because I have always believed the Internet was the future. Then I got sidetracked with college, girls, booze, weed, etc. Then I finished college and got a regular job and could never find time to pursue my passion.

Then my passion found me when I did not have very many options after having congestive heart failure in 2007 at the age of 30.

Here's a little story I like to tell:

When I was only 17 years old back in 1993, I fell in love with the Internet and making money online. This is when my passion began.

My friend happened to be dating the niece of Jerry Rice, you know the NFL receiver guy with all the records. Well 1993 was primetime for his stardom and we got our hands on some signed Rice stuff.

At the time we had no outlet to sell it for a fair price. Since we were kids, all the dealers tried to muscle us thinking we were stupid or did not know any better. So we came up with a bright idea. We decided we would post some signed cards with a picture of my friend and JR online.

It took us like 2 days to upload the photos because of the super slow dial up that always kicked us off when the phone rang.

Anyway, after we got it online to a message board, about 5 days later we received a Western Union money order for $92.50 USD ($75 + $17.50 s&h).

      The check came from Ireland!

We went bananas because the best price quote we had received was $40 US dollars. And the money came from Ireland! We couldn't believe we just sold something to a guy in Ireland of all places.

That is when I knew Internet Marketing was special and that's when the passion began.

...if you haven't Scored BIG and Lost BIG.
I'm not necessarily suggesting any particular figure...it's the exhilaration of winning and losing at higher thresholds than your normal comfort zone.

    Then you're IM'ing.
