Adobe Reader help please

I am hoping somebody out there has some good answers for me.

When I open pdfs, there's a dotted straight line separating each page.
I am currently converting a Word doc to PDF format and it also happens with that. This never used to happen (or it did and I am more nuts than I thought).

My questions are:

1. Is the line supposed to be there?

2. If not, how the heck do I get rid of it?
Yes, I have Googled the question and found a few things to try but
nothing has worked.

***edit. I found a way to show the gap between pages but I don't want that either.

While I am asking about pdfs, I might as well ask several more questions.

When I open pdfs to read them, the tools pane always appears on the right when it never used to before.

Also, the pdfs are always bigger than 100% view. Usually between 125-200% Is there a way to fix that?

I know these may seem like simple questions but, if I don't know the answer, they're not simple to me.

I await the help of whoever is reading this and thanks in advance.

I got rid off Adobe Reader long time back. I use Sumatra PDF. You should try that, it is minimal.

    Sumit.
