Why You Can't Punish a Psychopath, According to Science

    Yeah, punishment doesn't help.

The closest thing you can get, is explaining the logic of controlling your actions.

And if there is damage to the cerebral cortex, it won't help, because impulse control is a major aspect of psychopathology.

What if they're not stars? What if they are holes poked in the top of a container so we can breath?

Suppose you get a $2,000 tax refund this year. You might imagine buying a bottle of Louis XIII de Rémy Martin and drinking it all in one hell of a debauched night. Then you might imagine making practical house repairs--a new dishwasher or fixing a damaged roof. People who weigh rewards and punishments differently will make different decisions about which of these options provides, to them, the greater pleasure or poison.
    The tax example is flawed.

Maybe they just suck at managing money.

First you have to have a hypothesis, such as, "Reprimanding head of NASA will land me an interesting, easy, high-paying job." Then you need to go on this guided tour of NASA with a " chewing-out-the-boss script" to use when you encounter the head of NASA. Whatever results you get won't be accepted until the same results are arrived at by other researchers.

No, doubt he will come back with "You can't handle the truth statement"?

Or refer me to their inbetween person who will parrot out rehearsed reply's?

I may have to prove it first?

It would work if your goal is to be institutionalized.

Shane; Matt Damon is still on Mars. They teleported him to Earth. But the way a teleporter works, is that it creates an exact duplicate of you. So now, there are two Matt Damons. One on Mars, one here.

Just general commentary : I have been back and forth with the Death Penalty. Currently, I am leaning towards in favor of it only because I know there are violent psychopaths who have out of fun raped and murdered young kids and babies. And there is simply NO rehabilitation for them..

As Claude says they in many cases have damage in areas of the brain particularly the right amygdala.

Couple this with a horrible abusive childhood where mommy and daddy raped you or beat you up....well you then have the perfect storm for the makings of a potential violent psychopath.

The reason I am leaning towards executing some of them is they actually enjoy staying alive and retelling their gruesome, perverted stories over and over
...To the media, to prison mates, to anyone that will hear them.

            They get off on it.

              I've known a few.

Every one was completely oblivious that there is something wrong with them. They are like Piranha. To them, everyone else is a fish to be eaten. And trying to convince a piranha that eating other fish is wrong, they just think you are crazy.

First girl I ever kissed I found out ( via Facebobok and Myspace) out 17 years later that her dad was a violent psychopath . She hanged herself in 96' and her Dad got 27 years in Prison for Raping her everyday using pills and beer for a long time. And they had an incestuous baby who I actually contacted later and actually talked to thru email.

Sad ,sad. And to think the few times I hung out with him we sat around a campfire drinking beers and talking about Country Music and just laughing and laughing and whooping it up.

If I had only knew then what he was doing and the evil that lay under the guise he was putting on

This really spurred me on to study more about these sick creatures

Ironically, punishment fails for MOST people that are justly imprisoned. But the punishment SHOULD be more as a deterrent and protection of those outside.

Of course the law is not always just and many of those quit before they even get arrested. Hopefully the prison time doesn't have the OPPOSITE effect on THEM.
