[Preamble: I am not the client here! I am not hiring! This is not an affiliate link! This is not an affiliate program! I am not making any money or otherwise benefiting from this post, so I'm not going to buy a thread in the "hiring you" subforum for this.]

This is a new round (for the last week of March '16): Same client, same gig, same terms, looking to hire new (and old) people.

My voiceover associates passed on this, saying it's not enough pay for them, so I thought I'd pass it along here strictly as a courtesy to my friends here who'd be qualified and interested.

I have a client who's hiring a few thousand people over the next day or two for a very short-term gig. It pays US$36 for about two hours of work, (primarily reading aloud). You need to have been born and raised in the US with a native command of the English language, (reading and speaking). You need to have a microphone on your computer or mobile device.

Advice to those outside the US: The client is not stupid. If you don't qualify, please don't bother applying.

There are a few steps in the application process, but they're all very simple: Join the marketplace, (if you don't already have an account there), apply for the gig, fill out a simple questionnaire, and sign a non-disclosure agreement. Pretty much the key point here is that you have to be able to follow simple directions.

(Sad that I have to stress this, but such is life at WF these days.)

What David described is, sadly, RARE these days! If you interviewed 100 "americans" in some areas, you might not find ANY candidates! In other places, you might not even get 50%. I am working at some large companies and abut 80% of the people I work with would NOT qualify! Of course MOST aren't even native born americans, though many DO get "naturalized".

The guy is probably TIRED of searching, and trying to pay a high price to get good candidates. David is obviously trying to do his best to weed out the BAD ones.

That was a pretty raw statement to make considering that we've got millions living in the streets because they can't afford to live under a roof at the wages most people get here. Our economy isn't the same as elsewhere, why should we be paid the same as elsewhere? This guy is paying way above going rate for jobs here - and if it were long term, you can bet it wouldn't pay that much. 36 bucks doesn't go anywhere - a few days of food, maybe.

The minimum wage in the us, as it was, if NO taxes were paid, in some areas, it WOULD have been enough for an apartment, car, insurance, and enough incidentals. So YEAH, forget the bit about all in the US living high on the hog, etc... Most here eat NO better than anyone in Europe or Australia, and live no better. In fact, if one in those countries came HERE for a vacation, they would feel they could live like kings because their money goes farther, but look at the people that work here! Americans get paid LESS!

And I do NOT know what is with people when they are upset at a guy STRUGGLING to pay $50million for a little corporate jet to use on business, and are fine with a guy taking out one of TWO $357MILLION dollar JUMBO jets(I believe they cost more, but this is the price one site quoted) out to play a game of golf half way around the world while claiming our daily trip to work is endangering the planet, and demanding we pay more for energy, etc....

  How did an offer of $18/hr for someone sitting at home with a mic on their computer translate into focus on millions of homeless - who is and who is not American - etc. It's the same mantras over and over. Any excuse to go to your corners and snark out.
  
  If no one will take the job - the buyer will have to pay more if he wants work done. Supply and demand.

Hardly! And the quicker that Americans learn to ditch such attitudes, the sooner we can hope to repair at least some of the relationships that we've damaged with the rest of the world over the decades.

But that demonstrates my entire point. While I may actually agree with you silently, there's no need to bash any particular group in public, as one's comments will almost always be taken out of context, and emotions then quickly escalate.

While it may be naive to think that we're all going to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, there's really nothing wrong with closing one's mouth and turning one's cheek. World peace has to start somewhere.

Ten words; two letters each: "If it is to be, it is up to me."

There's a difference between legally protecting speech and suggesting that people respect each other and use good manners and civility. I will argue that a person in America has a legal right to draw a cartoon of Muhammad, as an expression of free speech. I'll also be quick to point out that I really don't think that it would be a good idea for them to do so.

Or am I misunderstanding you?

  probably because the whole thing sounds sketchy (hundreds of thousands being paid for reading and only born american) and to be honest this thread probably would have been locked or deleted as it would be for many other posts like it (more for the want to hire forum).

  It's Upwork, and there's no charge to join. I'm not even sure they have an affiliate program, but even if they did, I wasn't going to use my link, (assuming I could even find that on their site).
  
  The mods here have been so trigger-happy, I wasn't going to even mention Upwork, seeing as they are a direct competitor to Freelancer.
