    I'd say to avoid packages.
Just get the plan you need for each service.
    At least compare.

I know a lot of people using plans that are good for their phone use,
but overkill for their cable and internet use - or something like that.

      I currently have:

ATT - but not a smart phone. Have a slider qwerty with unlimited calls and texting. About $42 a month. My sister just offered to slap me on her plan which would only run me something silly like $5 a month - and I'm starting to think about it. But I'd have to get a smart phone and honestly I don't like bundling all that stuff into one little device that I will drop in the first week and crush.

      Internet - Karma.

Karma is a pay as you want to hot spot wifi with 3g 4g and I only pull it out when needed. Found I have free wifi 99% of the time and only using the Karma when I'm about town. Buy a bundle of data and it just rolls over and over. Started using it in August with 20gigs loaded up and still have 17.35gb

Just dropped my sprint broadband which was grandfathered in at 60 a month for unlimited, but was only 3g. Karma has a 50 a month plan for all the gigs you need. (they have a special on the units right now, and pm me for my referral code to get an extra $10 off if you want).

Got added to my sisters netflix account. She said it would be like $4 a month. Other than that, have free cable where I'm staying at the moment.

If I felt compelled to get cable, I'd probably wait for this to roll out: Comcast reveals Stream, a $15 online TV package for Internet-only subscribers | TechHive

I'm unsettled at the moment and in 3 different states so I don't feel any rush to do it.
